This place is on another level when compared to other taquerias in town. Their pastor has yet to be beat. The salsa has some kick unlike the watery corporate pablum found at other establishments. When they close for a few weeks during Christmas and New Year's the withdrawals are no joke.
If I had to say something unfavorable about the place my first thing would be more of a reflection on the economy rather than the establishment. When I started to going there burritos were $3 and change. While still worth the cost, they're now over $10. What are you going to do? They get you hooked at a young age and your addicted for life. The second issue I have is that you'll be completely disappointed by 99% of all other taquerias you visit. I often have to send friends in other states items from their menu. They must be doing something right if people are willing to pay for me to overnight meat and salsa to Ohio. Lastly, we all can screw up on occasion. If you find your first meal not as fabulous as I claim it to be, give it one more try. I have yet to have a second bad experience in the 36yrs I've been...
Read moreI come here all the time. In my opinion, this place and Taqueria De La Hacienda, which I believe is owned by the same people, are the two best Mexican places in Santa Cruz.
The burritos at Moreno's are excellent and happen to be moister than the ones at De La Hacienda if you are into that. Their lengua (pig tongue) burrito is especially delicious (not offered at De La Hacienda). Their vegetarian burrito is also probably pretty good (I know for a fact that the De La Hacienda veggie burrito is excellent). Even better than Moreno's burritos is their sauce. I'm not kidding when I say their sauce is the main reason I come here.
The only down side is they don't take cards. There is an ATM there, but you're better off bringing cash to avoid the fee.
Several times I've accidentally not brought enough cash, but they let me pay them back the next time I came in because I'm a frequent customer.
Other than just being the best Mexican places in Santa Cruz, I'd say Moreno's and De La Hacienda are two of very few places in Santa Cruz that can give you cheap, quick food that actually tastes...
Read moreWord of advice, when you order quesadillas make sure to specify CHEESE quesadilla because apparently in the world of Tacos Moreno a cheese quesadilla equals crispy open tortilla with lettuce tomatoes and beans! When our food was brought to us we were sure that they brought us someone else’s order, the cashier told us we were wrong because we didn’t specify CHEESE quesadilla. I’m sorry but I’ve never heard of a quesadilla without cheese. If you’re in the area and really craving a cheese quesadilla, Tacos Moreno is not for you. Also, by the way if you really like spending extra money make sure not to bring cash because Tacos Moreno is stuck on the gold standard. But if you do forget cash, don’t worry Tacos Moreno provides a lovely ATM machine where you get charged an extra 2 dollar processing fee. Talk about...
