SureStay by Best Western Santa Cruz — Hotel in Santa Cruz

After driving for many hours with 2 small children we arrived at the office to find no one around. Since my daughter desperately needed to use the restroom we called and was able to get a hold of someone to ask them to check us in 13 minutes early just so we could use the bathroom. Luckily they did and we quickly got to our room.

Now the room was very disappointing. The vinyl flooring was poorly installed and had chunks missing from it. The room was so tiny there was barely any room to walk around. Which with two kids is very difficult. The bed frames stick out so far I can’t tell you how many times we hit them.

We had planned into our evening a swim before we took a shower and went to bed. We got the kids all ready and excited and when we got out there the water was freezing!! I knew it said the pool was heated online so I went into the office and ask what was going on. The girl at the front desk said they turn the heater off at 6pm??? The pool doesn’t close until 9. The girl said they would turn the pool back on to get it warm so we can swim and they will keep the pool open until 10. While waiting for the pool to get warm we tried to eat in the room which was so awkward since the bed and the desk are so close to each other. So about 930 I checked the pool and it was still freezing so we gave up on that after we were able to get the kids to stop crying.

I had spilled something on the comforter while eating and when I cleaned it up using a wash cloth it was so disgustingly brown from whatever was on the comforter before l. I don’t know if the comforter was already that dirty or if it was the floor because it was also very dirty and our feet were black.

My last complaint and this was a major one is the doors! They have a lock that turns slightly but if you pull on the handle it unlocks and the only thing stopping it is a weird device. But my almost 2 year old son figured this out and I struggled keeping him in the room. He actually made it out once when I was helping my daughter.

This is not a family friendly hotel. I would not recommend to anyone. We paid over $300 and will never be back. It’s too far from the boardwalk and took us almost an hour to get there because the traffic was so congested. Save your money and stay...

Great little hotel less than a mile from the beach, clean, relaxed, excellent new Management team running this place! Very friendly staff. I think it was just bought by Best Western 7 weeks ago, and is being completely renovated.

I stayed in one of the suites, it looked nice, and it was very clean and quiet. New beds were very comfortable, I slept well. Great breakfast options in the morning, waffles were delicious! Coffee in the rooms smelled really good, new coffee pod machines were great.

Parking here was VERY safe. I was impressed with how well the parking lot lit up, and liked it had a lot of security cameras in it. I stayed for a week while working on a project for Google, and had no issue with my truck being bothered at all. I believe it was just repaved.

Loved it had a great pool area with chairs to lay out in the sun, and good wifi coverage. I was also close to the beach and the pier (4 min drive), when I wasn't working there was tons of stuff around to do.

The eating options were outstanding, I didn't have to drive to find a good meal once. Starbucks is .1 miles from the hotel, The Water Street Grill .1 miles, Taqueria Los Pericos .3 miles, Marianne's Ice Cream .3 miles (Best in SC), Jack In The Box .2 miles, Salsa Thai .4 miles, Lillian's Italian Kitchen .3 miles, The Habit Burger Grill .4 miles, McDonald's .4 miles, Ferrell's Donut Shop .4 miles, Santa Cruz Diner .2 miles, Samba Rock Acai Cafe .3 miles (If you like ACAI BOWLS this place is off the charts!!).

The managers and staff of this new property seem very intent on making sure people have a fantastic stay. The only thing missing in my suite was bathrobes and slippers lol. I enjoyed my stay, and will be back the next time I am flown in for work again, or if I need a few days off at the beach.

I do not like the conditions of this hotel, 2 police car was there in the parking lot when I arrived…!? Why!? I mentioned to FD and he looks like don’t know was going on, two different area was a guys smoke weed and have all the place stink! I get a king bed facing the street, as soon as I climb the stairs I don’t like the place, the stairs was dirty and full of spots the main aisle is like rubber black floor and you can tell never be clean! Dusted and uneven… when I open the door the worst! A dark stinky room! Old damage furniture and since I don’t feel confidently I open the bed to check the sheets and boom! Old blood spot or something else new on the mattress sheet! The coffee machine was dirty and look old, I will not use for make any coffee with that, so I call to FD the young guy was nice and attentive to resolve the problem (not proper uniform or tag name) since I don’t like the room and he agreed to changed right away! He gives me 2 beds inside facing pool area on the second floor too! This room was better, the coffee machine was like new so I just washed a bit, more towels was a pluss but no body wash on wall shower, ( don’t really need it bc I bring my own staff ) but no proper for a room with those amenities! sheets was clean this time, all pillows are a joke! No support or puffy at all, the only thing bothered a lot was the one side of the curtain was short or stocked so you have a side of the window without coverage and the light from outside was annoying and don’t let sleep well trough the night and morning! I don’t want try breakfasts so I can’t tell nothing about! I have to said this place need a lot improve in order to carry The Best Westen Pluss name! Is a shame to even compare with a Best Western Plus! You can tell the ownership no make any effort to maintenance well or clean this place! And have a great location to make a lot of money!!
