Cafe Berlina — Restaurant in Santa Monica

This place will be out of business before 2025. I had a call I had to get on right away upon entering the cafe so got on the zoom because it was a time-sensitive thing, I saw a big ugly signs saying there was no Wi-fi so I ran it off my own wi-fi, within a few seconds the wizened white lady named in a lot of negative reviews stomped over a scowling bring that there was no Zoom meetings in the cafe. I said okay I'm done shortly and I'll order. I spoke more quietly for a minute or two and I was done. The other customers didn't even notice me speaking. Went to go order in line and gave up because she was taking an astronomically long time to make a simple order, so sat down, I noticed there were also ugly signs saying there was no bathroom. She took forever to get done with the order, then someone else walked in and walked up to order and I said excuse me I have been waiting for a while, to the new customer. Menopause the farcical screamed that I had to leav the cafe. The furniture in uncomfortable in too low like made for a child. I've had the bear latte before which was okay. croissant before which was not memorable so it did not make it into my roster of the high quality...

We absolutely loved this place!

We were in LA for holidays staying in the Santa Monica area.

Being ourselves a Spaniard and a Canadian living in Germany, we were very curious about this place given its name. It didn't disappoint us!

The atmosphere is very charming, with classical music playing in the background, nice decoration and a few references to Germany and its culture. Maybe more important than that, the coffee was great. During our stay in LA we visited a bunch of nice cafes and found their coffee to be a bit too bitter in general. But the espresso macchiato at Cafe Berlina was just perfect in both its taste and presentation. Bravo!!

We also enjoyed very much talking to the owner in our (unfortunately not so good) German (es tut uns Leid!). I was particularly impressed after the owner asked us if the cortados they serve were like the ones made in Spain (where this type of coffee originated from). That tells me that this cafe will only get better and better! Kudos to the team!
