Food...outstanding... deserves a 7 star. The handmade Papusa corn exterior is perfectly grilled to perfection. The lightly hand layered ingredients are fresh, organic and delicately seasoned. I recommend ANY and ALL of the SPECIALTY PAPUSAS, meat and non meat choices which are very reasonably priced. The cabbage salad is delicious with fresh light seasonings and varies for take-out or dine in or custom catering. The Tamales 🫔 are both corn crema and chicken Salvedorean style with small delicate chunks of potatoes and green beans, then wrapped in a plantain leaf adding extra dimension to the flavor. The corn is light, fluffy and finely ground appearing naturally gourmet and simply delectable. The menu offers Salvadorean flavors and original twists to the selections. The portions on the dinners are sizeable with the handmade to order ala cart custard plantain desserts to top. The El Salvedorean homemade green and red sauces to complement the entire menus are compliments....healthful and exotic. Note of comparison. I have had freshly prepared Papusas at 2 other places in Nor Cal and this tops them both hands down. Note....new owners....GREAT...
Read morePUPUSAS! For $8 including tax and tip, I can get two pupusas with table service. I like to get one pork, beans, and cheese pupusa, and one of squash and cheese. Be aware that service can be slow, but when that fragrant plate arrives, I'm in heaven!
How to eat one of those pancake-like filled pupusas: ask for a side order of sour cream (one more than suffices for two people). Spread sour cream over each pupusa. Next, spread on some of the the pickled cabbage side dish. Then pour either red or green salsa all over everything and dig in! (The cheese may be super hot, so start with a little bite.) I've tried several of the other dishes on the menu -- they're good enough, though more expensive -- but I always go back to the pupusas.
The staff doesn't bring a check to your table at the end of the meal; you have to go to the counter to pay up. This is actually a nice model, since you don't feel rushed. The restaurant is no-frills and children can get quite loud, so consider this a family-friendly restaurant for comfort food, not a "date" restaurant. For what they're doing, Pupuseria Salvadorena s...
Read moreMy first and last visit, I had no problem waiting 30 mins for fresh made papusas. I ordered 4 of the pork cheese and bean ones, it was dead when I got there at 2:30pm ish. It got busy after that, but getting home and checking my order. It was all I ordered, they were kind of burnt, and the inside was so small. No meat no cheese, barely beans at all. I compared them to the ones at Costco , which is also where I learned of papusas. But I was very disappointed in what I paid $3.50 each for, they were not worth the price or the time. I won’t be back, I won’t recommend this place either. Which is sad, I was told they were good at this place. I mean it’s the name of it, yet the main thing there known for was terrible. Getting in and out of the parking lot was very hard as well, good thing the fair was not going on at the time of my visit. All I can...
