My friends and I were excited to try this place, especially because I love Italian and there were gluten free options for my friend. Before arriving, I called to ask whether dogs are allowed outside (my friend and I each have small dogs). I was told dogs are allowed both inside and outside. Because we arrived around 8:40 and it was cold, we sat inside with the dogs under the table. The first person saw us come in and seemed nice, but as soon as one of the servers approached (a man with glasses and a long beard), the first server to talk to us, he was very rude. He didn't say hi or anything, but rudely said "I can't have dogs here" to which I began to reply, "I was told they were allowed inside when I called." But he abruptly interjected, without even looking at me, with something that sounded like the equivalent of whatever and walked away, without taking our order or anything. Another server came around, he seemed relatively young and talk, and at least he was very polite and friendly. But when our wines arrived, my two friends were surprised at the low pour on one of theirs. I decided to ask this server about it. He said it seemed normal but that he'd ask for a bit more to be poured. Instead, within a couple of minutes the first rude server abruptly placed the same glass on the table and said it was a correct 6oz pour and just left. It was so fast and abrupt we couldn't say anything. We talked to the nicer server about it. He said maybe the other guy was having a long day because he's normally nice. But we felt so unwelcome. I decided to speak to the manager just to say the experience and hope that doesn't happen to others. Instead, the manager said people complained about the dogs (which is weird because they were mostly quiet and away from anybody, under the table and ther weren't many people at the restaurant). She was so dismissive and didn't even respond to us saying he was rude. She didn't care. We won't be back. My friend who had the gluten free pizza only ate slice anyway. It was just a crummy...
Read moreWonderful food and atmosphere. As soon as you step inside, you'd have no idea you were in a strip mall. Simple but wonderful decore'. Open and airy, yet still intimate.
I've been here a number of times but today I've decided to leave a review. My son and I are on a mission to visit every pizza restaurant in Santa Rosa. Last night Rosso's was due for our visit.
We arrived at 5:30 and found the place mostly empty. We sat at the long bar where there was seating for probably 15. Soccer was on the TV, but upon request, the bartender switch to game 1 of the World Series (come on, I had to ask for that?)
The menu was a simple one-page piece of paper with food on one side, beverages on the other. I like this because some places give you a book where you have to flip through pages of menu items, and crumbs fall from it onto your table or lap.
My son had a simple cheese pizza, and I ordered a small wedge salad and an appetizer of calamari. Wedge was delicious. Not the typical wedge but it's too difficult to explain. Check photos if you want to see it. Calamari was fresh and not chewy or over battered. My son prefers a pizza more in the style of Round Table, but I thought it was really good. A bit thinner than he's used to but more in the style you'd...
Read moreRidiculously small portions of overpriced food served in a fridge. The wine was terribly expensive too. The back door was open an a stream of cold air was sweeping the dining room. When I asked them if they could close it they said it was the door for the patio and couldn’t close it, then they closed it for like 5 minutes and opened it again. This in a freezing night in late November. The food was decent but nothing too special, had 3 orders of (tiny) “supli”, similar to arancini, meatballs, equally small, and two pizzas, and a bottle of an unremarkable wine for the price of a grand reserve, and two pizzas for the kids. Others in our table ordered some other stuff. The pizzas were ok, but as the rest the food, fun sized. Thus, the worst part was the bitter cold, everyone was dining with their coats on. Looks like they don’t want people to linger around for too long and the way to do it is make them feel uncomfortable. Having a manager with a beard and a hat to try to give the place a hipster atmosphere just doesn’t cut it.
Avoid this place, there are much more comfortable, warm, and less expensive places in Santa Rosa to eat a...
