FAIR WARNING written in hind sight... I had been here a few years back a few times and thought today was a good idea to bring my god baby to try a new buffet. She wanted to go to another one we visit often. & I should've listened so i wouldnt feel so inconvenienced. Onto the review. We were greeted nicely. I offered to pay before sitting down. The waitress said no it's fine and proceeded to seat us. I grabbed 2 sampler plates, one of hot food (rice, chicken, crab ragoon, etc.), the other one cold with fruit and sushi. I had pineapples, oranges, peaches, and mandarin oranges. I was eating around the plates and sampling... most of everything tasted decent, except I had tasted something weird when I started eating my sushi, I took a bite of pineapple and put it down and back. I then tasted my peaches. They tasted like mold, mildew or a dirty pan. Very off. I told my god baby to stop eating immediately, who is 9 yrs old. I asked to her to try a peach, and she spit it in a napkin. I then got up and said we are leaving. Not to say the other food wasn't okay. It was the fact the peaches/pineapple tasted not just bad but unsanitary. So maybe this week they missed some details. I understand running a buffet can be a lot, still all food related procedures should be followed to ensure the best part of the experience the customer actually came for. My godbaby and I got to leave. As I was heading to the exit, I stopped to pay. I began reaching in my purse and also informed the waitress of this issue. She initially showed concern, then looked to another employee and he said something for her to then rush me through this process. They didn't offer a discount of the bill but i understand. Maybe thought I wanted to eat for free. I just would like to enjoy the service to the extent I intended while ready to happily pay. Since we didn't get fill our bellies to our desire (aka the point of a buffet) We we have to get food somewhere else. The ambiance is beautiful, the initial service was the welcoming standard, the overall food I did try, I give a 6.5/10... it's not the worst or the best. It's a buffet. Some stuff is amazing, good, or bad and everything in between. I simply paid the bill 25 something. I gave her $40, she returned the change with 2 fives and 5 ones. I gave a $2 tip. Outside, I then explained to my godbaby that you have to choose your battles. We did eat some things... was it to the extent that we would've liked? No... but they did do their part and in providing the service. We are the ones deciding to leave due to our discomfort. Thank them for their service that they did do and ask to please check those peaches and fruit for others. We may give them a try again in a couple years, maybe under new management or with more knowledgeable staff of all food procedures. So, you could go there and eat pretty decently, I would just say pay attention... sooo yep... thanks for...
Read moreTo sum up what I'm about to type for those without a lot of time to read, don't listen to the negative reviews, eat here, you won't regret it! I will definitely be going here again and again! Wonderful food and wonderful prices.
I was at the stores across the street from here and was immediately interested, not only because I am an avid fan of seafood, but also because I suppose I take a liking to cutesy logos as well. Imagine my surprise when, after searching Hokkaido on Google Maps, these insane reviews pop up saying how they have roaches, how they need to be investigated immediately, and how overall this place is a hazard.
Now, I'm not one to run away from places easily. I guess my curiosity and interest flared up upon seeing these reviews for a supposedly infested building. So, as I woke up on this fine New Years Day, I spoke to my partner about going here for lunch, and we set off to do so!
Once we arrived, I was a little startled on how nice the main lobby looked. I mean, it's a buffet in St. Louis, so I wasn't expecting much, but walking in, I was calmed down, and my anxieties slowly washed away. It smelled lovely as a seafood enjoyer, and I quickly felt like I may have been a bit underdressed. The staff greeted us with a smile, sat us down, and asked for our drink preference. (And heads up, Pepsi fans, they serve Coke products!)
We walked through the line after a bit of tableside discussion and were greeted with plenty of options! From the most "basic" option, rice, to the most wonderful steamed buns, my partner and I were immediately captured. I managed to keep myself grounded, with only a bit on my plate at a time, while my partner went a little crazy grabbing every item that stood out.
Each and every food item was placed in an order that made sense and was convenient. The dumplings and sushi were my absolute favorite, and the crab was cooked freshly. I enjoyed every bite thoroughly, and at the end of our visit, I felt sad that I couldn't give more items a try. But, my stomach was full, and I didn't want to put myself in a food coma, so I stopped when it felt right.
Overall, I would heavily recommend this buffet to anyone who loves Asian dishes and seafood. And hey, if you can't stomach fish, perhaps don't go and lie about your experience being full of terror in a restaurant where seafood is the focus.
This place is awesome,...
Read moreAlthough initially I did not want to go to this Chinese buffet because of my experience in another location of the restaurant, the party I was with (my mother, my adult daughter, and my girlfriend) determined that this is where we were going. I really had no choice in the matter, now did I?
I still resisted as we walked in the doors to a beautiful entry and dining room. I made them all wait as I checked out what was on the buffet because there was no point in paying for me to go in if there wasn't any food I would eat. Even with a price under $10 for lunch, which isn't a bad price for a buffet, you still want to eat something for that money you have to pay!
The variety and quality on this buffet was nothing like the first experience I had! The food was so tantalizing that I almost grabbed a plate and started without them! Everything was fresh and looked delicious. And, as I rounded the corner, in amazement I saw the best part of going to a buffet that has somehow been neglected at more and more buffets - a soft serve ice cream machine! I turned and walked out to the cashier holding up four fingers to seat us immediately!
The food was as good as it looked and was fresh and delicious! Everything that all of us took from the buffet was devoured. There wasn't anything that any of us pushed aside because it wasn't good. The wait staff was very friendly throughout the entire restaurant and were happy to help with any questions (and one waiter even took a picture of our group upon request!)
It was lunch time and mildly busy, but the atmosphere was quiet. Or, maybe we were the loudest table in the place and we couldn't hear anyone else? No, we weren't getting any dirty looks from the other diners, so it must have been good acoustics in the dining room.
I will definitely be going back to this restaurant and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a Chinese buffet in the area! I'm very happy I was dragged in, kicking and screaming, to enjoy a...
