I placed a mobile order thru the app, but my card was not being its usual obedient self, so I had to go inside to pay with cash. There was no one at the counter when I got to it, but I was greeted promptly from across the kitchen area by the drive thru cashier, and a young man who was returning from delivering a dine in order greeted me as he left the land of the customers and crossed No Man's Land (the counter) into Employee Territory. He asked how he might help me, and I briefed him on the current credit card snafu. He looked at the order screen, tapped a couple of colored squares, and then apologized to me, saying today was his first day with the burger behemoth. I smiled and told him that my first day of actual non family related professional employment was at.....McDonald's! Just not today. A moment passed as we looked at each other, he reminding me of my own fresh faced entry into the vast and varied ocean of corporate employment, my whole life opening up before me, leading to unknown adventures and riches I had up to that moment only dreamed of, and he, staring at the broken and battered husk of the man I once was, who now can only find joy in the free cookie that comes with the 12 cookie carry case, and wondering if the creature he now beheld was his own not too distant destiny. A veteran team member, too young to remember the original burger battles, but certainly old enough to have taken part in the chicken nugget skirmishes of 2018, joined us in short order and deftly talked the noob thru the procedure of finding my order with the encrypted app code number I provided, and the exchange of local currency to complete phase 2 of Operation Big Mac and Nuggets. The vet then disappeared into the ether as I found a place close by to make camp as I awaited my reception of the package. I was just dozing off when I heard the audible alert: "Order for John." I made sure the path was clear, then made my approach. The noob was green for sure, but he executed the handoff with the confidence and ease of a team member twice his age. As I made for the exit, just as I was lining up my extraction path between vehicles screaming out from the drive thru, I heard his voice call out with a strength and maturity that wasn't present at the start of the mission, "Thank you!" And as I mounted my bike to begin my return to base down the wilds of the Legacy Trail, I thought to myself, "Oh no young warrior, quite the...
Read moreI was there at 8am. Monday morning, 1-28-2013. I wanted a cup of coffee while I walked with my dogs. I pulled into one of the two lanes for the drive-through and noticed there were a lot of cars ahead of me. I decide to park my car instead of waiting in line with anxious dogs whining and drooling over the expected walk. By the time I got out of my car and looked at the drive-through, all the cars were different or gone, huh! After the walk, I left the dogs in the van to have a burrito breakfast meal. I got my order pretty quickly with my six hot-sauces; not five, not… whatever. I sat down and started my laptop to read the news. When I opened my first burrito, I noticed that the paper-covering was different. It was like a Japanese Origami artist had folded my burrito with loving care. I ate it with amazement because it was the "Pièce de résistance" of burritos. There was perfect consistency of ingredients and not under-stuffing. This person was not a cook but instead a Chef! I have been there before, long ago, when the staff was so loud that you couldn’t talk to your meal partner. Now, the staff works like a fine tuned machine,…very quiet and VERY efficient. I also had lunch there the day before. The hamburger I had was also put together carefully, not squishy and ingredients all over the place. McDonalds,... the black, female manager that works with a back-brace on, a manager that teaches by example, needs to get a raise! “Excellence in...
Read moreThe McDonald's on Bee Ridge, between Beneva and Sawyer unfortunately is THE worst McDonald's I have been to in Sarasota. I will drive the extra miles to go to a different one even though this one is across the street from my house. The reason for 2 stars is because there are a couple of early morning workers that really do their best. I wish they could work at a better store. The rest of the staff has a significant difficulty communicating with English speaking customers, and they are ALWAYS working the drive-thru! Why? I wonder too. Their prices are different than other McDonald's as well and I'm told it is because they are privately owned. So that means charge more I guess. Rarely do I drive away with the correct order even though the sticker stating it's been checked is on the bag. That is decoration I guess. No need to specify if your child is a girl or boy when ordering a Happy meal. You will get whatever toy they want to throw in the bag. So happens it's always the opposite sex of my child. Go figure. Might have something to do with my English. All in all, I've tried to give the location a chance. Thinking some times might be busy, some days are bad days, we all have them, and no matter when I've gone, my expectation to be disappointed, is...
