Polcari's Restaurant — Restaurant in Saugus

On July 5th, 2024, Friday we went to a Pizza Restaurant named Polcari’s Italian American Pizzeria Regina. This restaurant was located at 92 Broadway, Saugus, MA 01906. This location had plenty of parking outside on the side of their restaurant. When we walked into the Restaurant place looked very nice and the hostess welcomed us and offered her services as we introduced ourselves and we told her we made reservations for a party of 7/8 peeps. When we sat down, we met our waitress Sajada who was a spunky young lady. She was very tentative; she did welcome us with her infectious smile and asked us if we were new to the restaurant and we did say yes, we were. She asked us what we would like to drink and got all our drinks, water, and soda. She explained the pizza menu to us and boy o boy there was a lot of pizza variety to choose from. Sajada mentioned the famous chicken tenders that it was their top seller. And she was right, it was soooooooo good. We were a party of 8 people, and they were able to find a nice long table to accommodate us. SaJada explained the menu to us, and we placed our order. Everything sounded soooooo yummy! She was excellent from the initial contact to the end of our dinner experience. We reside in Florida, and I flew to Boston to see a sick relative and meet up with some family and wanted to spend a little time with them. We decided to go eat and relax and enjoy a good dinner. My Cousin looked this place up on google maps since we were close and wanted to eat some pizza. This restaurant was amazing. You can't compare Florida pizza to Boston pizza. But I would like to let your restaurant know that this young lady exceeded our expectations. She was FABULOUS. We also asked her if she could take pictures of the table with our cell phone, and she did. She made our experience a memorable one. Please commend her for her SPECTACULAR Customer Centricity! We have driven by this place so many times coming back from Logan so we finally decided to stop. My husband said he didn’t realize they had Regina’s pizza (nostalgic memories in Boston) When we first walked in, there was a chemical smell so I am assuming they just cleaned something - but it was a little strong. We were seated pretty quickly and the hostess was very nice. The booth we were seated out had tons of crumbs on the seat so I had to wipe them off - guess kids were there before us! Our waitress seemed new. She asked us for our drinks and if we were ready to order. We were so started off with toasted ravioli, I got chicken piccata and my husband asked for chicken parm. She got a little confused and when repeating it back said “chicken Marsala” - I corrected her to chicken piccata. She then looked at my husband and said “oh you had the Marsala?” To which he had to say no chicken parm. I had about a 50/50 bet we would get what we actually ordered. Luckily, we did get what we ordered. (Would have liked to have had some bread for the table). The toasted ravioli was good. Nothing to write home about, and seemed like something frozen and heated up quickly. The chicken piccata was good and I liked that it wasn’t overly sauced but it did have a TON of capers. My husband said his parm was decent. The pasta on both of our dishes was al dente so it was nice that it wasn’t soft. Overall, the food felt like Olive Garden but slightly elevated. It was good, but nothing made us overly excited. The Manager stopped by and he was extremely friendly. I just feel like the dishes should have had a little more flair and not so basic. I know it’s just chicken and noodles, but everything felt so pre-made. The prices were good so at least I didn’t feel like I overpaid for something simplistic. I’m sure we will stop again and give it another try but it was definitely worth trying...

My family makes really good food so this might impact my rating but it was just so- not good? Its not bad. But its just not good. I got the Chicken Florentine. It was supposed to come breaded but it wasn’t. Chicken was flavorless and spinach was so wet on top of it. But worse of all it was sour. Not that the food was bad- but sour from all the lemon juice.

My Mum got the traditional calzone. It was so salty she couldn’t eat it. Shes sensitive to salt but I’m not so I tried some since I couldn’t really eat my Florentine. First few bites were okay but after that it became to salty for me.

Next is the service. I think she is new and stuff but everything took a long time (not her fault at all), but she took 14 minutes to take our orders after she took our order for bruschetta (which was mid) and she took are forks away. Then when our entrées came we had no silverware and it took another two minutes to ask for some so it was like another five minutes before we could actually eat. I know waiting is hard but she maybe had 4 tables? Idk man.

Maybe my rating it harsh. I just expected better. I came here many years ago and came again because of there delicious bread and oil, WHICH THEY NO LONGER HAVE.

Positive notes- lots of handicap parking, ramps and all that. Seemed pretty accessible. Bathroom was also clean and even smelt pretty good too.

I just assumed the food would be good by the amount of old Italian woman I saw with their families eating or up front to people. (But you know old people loss their sense of taste over time so yeah no). Overall not good but also it could be way worse. Will not go back...
