Hungry on a Mother's Day evening, we came to Jose's after much debate. We were surprised and satisfied! Parking was crowded and the restaurant was very busy; however, we were seated promptly. I understood right away why this was the place to be: the food is very reasonable in price, delicious and the service is excellent. Our waiter arrived with a basket of tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa: this is how every Mexican restaurant experience should begin. The chips were warm and the salsa tasty (he brought us another round after we quickly devoured the first). I ordered Enchiladas Rancheros. They were good but it was perhaps a bit too salty. The rest of my family were happy with their meals: Enchiladas Supremas, some Lunch Order #8? and a kid's Chicken Tender and fries. My youngest is a notoriously poor eater, so I challenged her to finish her meal for a reward: she finished it happily. Her reward was some Fried Ice Cream, which we all enjoyed. Our attentive waiter gave my wife a free slice of cheesecake for Mother's Day. It was a nice gesture and unexpected. Will we come to Jose's again when we are back in Sault Ste. Marie? Absolutely.

Jose’s food is 4 or 5 stars and the prices are reasonable, but it isn’t the Mexican food most folks are familiar with and service and decor could use some work. The food is very good, but pretty basic for the most part - closer to authentic Mexican food. The chips and salsa were very good and quickly refilled. Do NOT ask for the mild salsa; it wasn’t good and I wouldn’t even call it salsa, almost a marinara sauce. The regular salsa was outstanding. The nachos was cheese and meat on chips, not what I or anyone else expected. The burritos and the Acapulco cheese steak (a burrito) were great; rice and beans are rice and beans. Our server was nice and friendly, but not great. A request for a glass to drink beee from wasn’t delivered until after the bottle was almost consumed. A chicken burrito was a beef burrito when it got to the table. And the server never came back to check on us, though he was very responsive when we signaled to him. The check was dropped off at the table, but we were left to figure out that you pay on the way out. Parking is plentiful and the building is in good shape, but it’s an old Studebaker’s restaurant you can tell if you look around - not a lot has been done to make it into Jose’s. Good food, cold beer and friendly staff deserve a visit, but be prepared.

Love it! We have been coming to this area every summer for years but moved here in April...so when restaurants starting opening up we wanted to try out the New Mexican Restaurant. We were told that it wasn't very good but we love Mexican and we aren't fond of The Palace (except their queso and fried tortillas) So we gave it a try. Let's just say we have been there almost every week since! We have taken the family members that didn't like it out to dinner to Jose...and the all have changed their minds except for one...he didn't like his meal...but he doesn't like cilantro and it had plenty of cilantro on it. My Favorite is the Burrito LP...I get it without the tortilla and it's FANTASTIC! EL Tio, Jose special, the chimichangas are all really tasty. The servers are very nice and the dining area is large enough that we can social distance ok.

Went there on a Sunday for dinner. Place was packed but we were still seated immediately. There were 4 of us. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There’s a great selection of things to order and the frozen margaritas are fantastic!! I had the regular one so I can’t comment on the other flavors. Free chips and salsa of course! I ordered the Burrito Grande (I think)and a side of refried beans. The burrito came with chicken, steak and shrimp inside with tomatillo salsa, enchilada red sauce and CHEESE sauce on top. I think I’ll just get the cheese sauce next time. It was really tasty. This was my second time here and I will definitely be back. We can’t get good Mexican food like this in Canada. The prices are excellent by the way.

Cindy, our server, was amazing. Best service weve ever had, hands down. Even if the food wasnt good, which it was, I would go back because of Cindy. The food was great. The chips and salsa were a perfect appetizer. The Chunky Guacamole, made by Cindy, was phenomenal. The chicken chimichangas were piping hot, seasoned well and overall very good. The rice and beans were a perfect side dish. Amazing service, great food, clean and appealing dining room and building. The bar room looked clean and visually appealing as well. Highly recommend. Wish i could give it 6 stars!

Stopped into José's for the first time today. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I expected another Americanised, slightly upscale Taco Bell. However, this restaurant has legit authentic tacos, etc. The chips and salsa provided when you sit down are pretty basic, but the tacos more than made up for that. I had chicken and chorizo tacos and they were great! I am really glad to see the Soo expanding to more variety in food options. Finally, the staff is friendly and service was quick. I'll definitely be back!
