What an amazing find in a sea of soulless chain restaurants. I travel to Schaumburg for business and am stuck eating a monotonous string of OK food when I'm there. Nothing that feels like somebody put some passion, some soul into it.
I have a pizza place back where I grew up that is my gold standard. It is run by a Sicilian family and their pizza is handcrafted, handmade crust and sauce, the finest shredded mozzarella - cooked in a Baker's Pride oven. Well, Google finally came through with the recommendation to try Joe's. I saw the 4.8 rating, the photos of the pizza...I was there.
Joe's is a small space that ruminates with the scent of something amazing being created. The dine-in space is extremely limited, but don't let this turn you off. The experience was as authentic as it gets. Being in the proximity of something being handcrafted for you with all of the best ingredients - being prepared by the owner of the establishment with the pride and skill of a master - it is the feeling that is missing from the dozens of also-ran franchises that surround the location.
Ingredients were garden fresh. Fresh sliced mushrooms, onions, and green peppers danced among the decadent mozzarella with chunks of fresh Italian sausage - cooked on the pizza as God intended. The crust is the perfect vessel to transport this masterpiece of fresh sauce, sausage, veggies, and cheese to your waiting mouth. Equal parts crunchy and delicious, the texture imparted to the bottom of the pie by the floor of the oven cannot be replicated by any far inferior conveyor cooking system like almost all pizza chains utilize. The pizza that I consumed was an absolute triumph. Do yourself a favor and give this wonderful experience a try. You will not regret it.
What's Right:
Delicious Italian specialties created with care and the best fresh ingredients - only feet from you. Sipping a soft drink from a wine glass and listening to a selection of Sinatra and Rat Pack recordings as they echo from the kitchen. I was literally waiting for DeNiro or Pesci to walk in. An owner who treats you as if you are a guest in his own home. Traveling for business, I get to experience the utter lack of customer service that has overtaken restaurants in 2020. Not here. No way.
What's Wrong:
Nobody in our Schaumburg corporate office had heard of the place. That's a damn shame. I don't have Joe's in the...
Read moreI was looking for a different take out place tonight, and Joe’s Pizza came up in the Google search under best take out pizza. I thought, well, it’s worth a try, I’ve had every other pizza within about 8 miles of my house. Boy was I in for a treat, the smell of baking pizza fills the entryway…speaking of entryway, it’s like being in someone’s living room, so cozy and warmly decorated Italian style. The customer ahead of me was asking Mr Dino to prepare a pizza to take back with him to Iowa, and I knew this was the place! More customers came and went, and Dino knew them by name, regulars. I was initially going for the chicken sandwich, but just seemed silly at that point not to get a pizza. I didn’t know what to get, so Dino suggested sausage. We chatted while he prepared the food, he truly cares about the customer as a person as much as he cares about the food he’s making for them! Needless to say, the pizza was a-maaazing! And I’m not normally a thin crust gal, the sausage was the best sausage I’ve ever eaten, the sauce, cheese were expertly proportioned for the perfect bite. My Mom can’t chew very well or I would have offered her a piece, but my sister gave the pizza two thumbs up! Thank you, dear Dino, for your amazing pizza and for being such a kind hearted person, God bless you!
Update: aaand the few leftovers we had were absolutely fantastic the next day, the ultimate sign of a good pizza! Flavors really shine through, no garbage ingredients, just good tasting pizza. Thanks...
Read moreThis is the local pizza place. Not Schaumburg’s local pie place, it’s everyone’s. It just happens to only be in Schaumburg. This is the place I wish I had where I lived and traveled. Family vacation to outer banks and its pizza night, I need Joes. Business trip to Boston and the team is wanting to get pizza, I need Joes. In England for daughter’s soccer club trip and we want pizza, how can we get Joes 6 hours ahead and across the Atlantic. Families who come to Libertyville for Midwest regionals soccer, this is your pizza place. Every second weekend of June, this is your pizza place after driving hundreds of miles and you don’t want a sit down surround by anyone other than fellow soccer families. Dino and Robin are the best. Highly recommend the Alfredo pizza and the pepperoni and sausage (the two photos I am going to upload). Please anyone and everyone, don’t let this place go. This is the small business you want to show off on social media. This is the American dream you want to help support if you love the dream that was promised with America. This is your hometown pizza whether you are from FL, CA, TX, Canada, Maine, NY, or Italy. It’s not an opinion, this is a fact. The sausage and Pepperoni is the best pie I have ever had in my 47 years on the planet. Don’t leave this moral realm without letting Dino and Robin show you what pizza is like if the world...
