Cold Brook Cafe — Restaurant in Scituate

First time coming in today and unfortunately will be my last. During the Arts Festival, the weekend where this shop most likely makes the most amount of money in their fiscal year, I was faced with some of the worst customer service. Tried ordering a bagel 30 minutes before close, and the girl highschooler behind the counter informed me, “we’re closing soon so our kitchen is closed.” In my time working in the food industry, your kitchen stays open until you’re closed. Period. If a manager of mine was to hear me saying this to a guest, I would probably not have a job. I ordered a hot vanilla latte which was very good. Nice espresso and well-steamed milk. I then ordered a blueberry muffin since that’s all you had, and the girl again had the audacity to say to me “well since we’re closing soon they’re marked down if you want to grab more then one since you’re hungry,” excuse me? Very rude. My friend at the register beside me was ordering her coffee, and upon ordering it her total was IMMEDIATELY given; my friend didn’t even have the opportunity to order a pastry before we were rushed away from the counter. I understand this is a busy weekend and I am sure you all tired from working hard, but guests should not be treated like this. I had planned this “corner cafe” outing with my granddaughter all summer! We chose this location for the spot you’re in! Had juice, cinnamon bun, iced chai and a muffin. Ordered and waited to take it outside to sit! I am NOT a cheapskate and I would have TIPPED on our $15.50 bill… BUT the young lady who took our order and cash then proceeded to put $2.00 from my change into the tip cup! I saw her putting cash in and thought it must have been from the last customer but when I took my change from her and was putting my tip in I realized she had TIPPED HERSELF with MY CHANGE! I put the another dollar in that I was already putting in BUT I’m sorry that’s NOT RIGHT! I’m very surprised that the owner or manager would allow this to be done by staff members! This place is truly the best! I went for the first time and will be visiting regularly now. Great food and service and owners really care about quality and atmosphere; making sure everyone is taken care of and happy. It’s so welcoming when you walk in and I highly suggest you eat inside instead of takeout because it’s so cozy inside. You can bring a book or magazines and enjoy coffee or a baked good or one of their bagel sandwiches (which is what I had). You can tell there are a lot of regulars who come in which is great and says a lot about the business.
