The South Shore is a vegan food desert, so when I saw a fully plant-based offering on their menu, we were so excited to try it! (Nov. '22) ... what a let-down. What was supposed to be a veggie-packed sandwich with non-dairy cheese and a creamy non-dairy spread/hummus was actually just a few slices of tomato, a small jar of marinated fennel (that's a LOT of fennel - as typically only a slice or 2 is used to make an entire pot of soup), and 2 slices of one of the waxiest, blandest non-dairy cheeses I've ever had (I've been vegan for 7+ years and have tried dozens of varieties) on bread (the bread was surprisingly delicious though!). No spread. No other vegetables. For $12 + tip.
Also, the staff did this weird thing where they didn't say "hi" to me when I was picking up, but instead just started chanting and singing my name? And that made everyone in line start laughing? I know that sounds made up, but it was really weird and made me uncomfortable. Maybe it was a weird coincidence I don't know. lol
According to their website, the "Forrager" sandwich description seems to have been updated, though it is no longer vegan as-is. Maybe we'll try it again, but we're not in a rush.

Read moreMy wife and I were planning on grabbing a sandwich at Lucky Finn for lunch today and decided, on a whim, to try the XR sandwich shop, next door, and Oh my Lord am I glad we did!!! I opted for the Reuben, as it is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. I order them often and all over the country. My current number one is from a deli in the Reading Terminal in Philadelphia. No one has really been close until today. XR's owner was behind the counter today and he was very confident I would like his Reuben. I didn't just like it, it was as good or better than the best I'd ever had. He smokes his own corned beef in-house, and it's absolutely to die for,...no exaggeration, to die for. I suspect everything on the menu is delicious.
Don't be put off by the location. If you like Reuben sandwiches, I seriously doubt you will find a better...
Read moreI went here recently and was met with rude customer service. I was really excited to try a sandwich but the wait was ridiculously long. I worked in food service so I understand how stressful it can get behind the counter but it was shocking how unorganized this place was. The ordering tickets they had set up (if you’re unfamiliar to kitchens it’s basically a to do list for orders to help organization) were small but they were acting like they had 400 items to make. I didn’t even bother staying in line, the wait was that bad, with only one other person in front of me, who was also waiting way too long for a sandwich. I was really willing to give this place a shot but I think I’m all set now. Really disappointing as I love...
