The staff was great. The management could find a nicer way of handling covid. Maybe read a few books on service or leadership like "raving fan" or "the like switch". Had a group of 6 for dinner that they said they could accommodate outside, when we get there they ask us to sit at 2 different tables, we decided to just go to Applebee's instead so we can sit together, then they offer a 6 person table outside. Made us feel like they were trying to push us away from eating there. We ordered a ton of apps and then dinner, 30 min after burritos come out, one of the staff brings us takeout boxes (without us asking or being asked) saying we need to wrap it up. We ask to talk with the manager to ask why it feels like we're being pushed out when we're the only table out on a Monday evening (a slow night) and spending a heafty amount of money continuously on food and drinks. They proceeded to say that we need to make our way out soon and its just the way it is. Everyone eating was a business owner themselves (with experience in the restaurant industry) and couldn't believe the level of service for customers. We all have dined at plenty of restaurants during covid and all handle the situation with aplomb. We all understand there are rules for covid & BBG but there is a way of explaining that to customers properly vs making them feel unwelcome and pushed out. The staff was amazing so management cant be doing that bad of a job, but management should stay away from delivering service themselves and just trust their employees. We left a generous tip and will likely...
Read moreThis was our first time here. It probably would have been a 4 star if not for the covid rules they had in place. The food was excellent and the server was very nice however there were 3 main issues. First, I wasn't permitted to order drinks when I ordered my appetizers. Now I eat out 4 or 5 times a week and I have never been told no to this. Mad Mex insisted I had to ordered my main course before I could get a beer. No other restaurant in Pittsburgh is doing this including Applebee's on the other side of the parking lot. Nevermind that it makes no sense, as if I was somehow less likely to get covid based on the order of which my beer was rang into the system. When I'm out I don't want my dining experience to feel rushed, one course being served while I'm still trying to enjoy the previous course. Secondly, there is a sign on the table basically saying that you are being timed. You have 90 minutes to eat. Now that's a load of BS. I'm there with 5 family members including my 86 year old mother. I had visions of my yelling at her, eat faster eat faster! Lastly, we ate outside and the HVAC unit is so loud we were literally screaming at each other from across the table. Overall the food quality was very good. Our waitress was very nice but her hands seemed to be tied based on some kind of rules. I probably won't come back there until this covid scare is over and even then...

It's still here and still open. They did improve things by creating an outdoor seating area under canopies. While they do pipe the music outdoors, it is not nearly as obnoxiously loud as they keep it indoors. The food has not changed, except they do have some seasonal dishes which we tried for lunch.
The Sriracha Chicken Taco is an obvious takeoff of the Popeye's Chicken Sandwich. Unfortunately, they did not succeed in it. The chicken itself was cut in chunks too large for a bite, yet too small to fill the soft taco, so they put three in each taco - which now was too much! It was also relatively flavorless and the Sriracha sauce had so much mayonnaise in it that the only think left of Sriracha was the orange color. The long pickle slice and the shredded lettuce (??) were not really needed either.
The Shrimp Mushroom Burrito was much more successful, even though it was messy to eat. luckily we ordered it without the burrito so it came in a bowl with a fork and knife which allowed for a better way to deal with it. Phew!
2019 -- Fun place with creative twists on burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. Not traditional Tex Mex at all! On this visit, close to St. Patrick day, they had corned beef and cabbage in a burrito.
While a bit dark and loud, we saw lots of families with kids. Food was decent but charging for the chips and salsa...
