To start off, let me talk about parking. Restaurant is located on an upper incline road that does not have enough parking spaces. There were elderly people parking at the preschool and had to walk. Secondly, if you have to drop off those who are not able to walk up a hill and find parking. Why do they have to have a sign on their check-in podium stating, "can not be seated without your whole party?" Third, after being seated, the approximate wait was less than 15 minutes, which is good for a Sunday. (Was my birthday breakfast). It took our waitress another 10 minutes to just address us and another 10 to take our drink order. We got the corn beef hash, home potatoes & eggs, turkey link sausage & eggs, and kielbasa & eggs. The homestyle potatoes had no flavor, and the turkey link sausage was rubbery and disgusting. Between the three of us, we took a nibble of oe sausage and could not even swallow since it tasted weird. Our waitress never came around. We had to ask the waitress next to us to request her. When she came to our table, I described the texture of the sausage and asked if she could replace it with the kielbasa. The item came quickly, which was great! When we got our check, we were surprised that she charged us $.25 to replace the food. It's not the price but the principal. We did not tip as well, and we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The atmosphere and hostess are the only 3 stars this place will receive from us.

Jan 2024 Update Time has not been kind to this place. We had to wait for a lunch spot even though the place was half empty as they do not have the staff to operate at capacity. Our waitress had been there for a long time and she knew the menu and the procedures, but was very distracted by having to deal with too many tables and so it took a long time to get through the meal. Our favorite dish (Mushroom Sherry Omelette) is no longer on the menu so we settled for two others. They were tasty enough. One strange thing was the "Pastina" soup that came with the sandwiches. It was offered as an option instead of the Italian Wedding soup. When we got it, we noticed that it looked just like a wedding soup, with the little meatballs and all. Asking our waitress about it, she told us that the two soups are actually the same - they just add some spinach leaves if you order the Italian Wedding version! Needless to say, it also did not taste right ... for either type... but that's how they do it these days. ************************************************** Large portions. Staff that tries hard. Serves breakfast items with a smattering of lunch sandwiches. I'm familiar with the chain from another state. To my taste buds, the sherry mushroom sauce is not as rich as elsewhere. Maybe it was just me... Parking can be a challenge, which is annoying as the building interior is huge.

Overall bad experience, and would not return. We elected to go here because the Denny's at the bottom of the hill had boarded up windows. We should have went there. There was a wait and I was understanding of this. The host would not let me look over a menu while I waited. We were taken to the table and waited a while before a disgruntled lady approached the table and got our order. She seemed upset that the table ordered both coffee and a juice of some sort. When asked about clarifying things, the server appeared to be in a rush and bothered by our just being there. The order was wrong, and the food came out cold. We were too hungry to complain and just managed to eat it anyhow. The fountain drinks tasted like bleach. We were traveling and thought it may just be the water, although the coffee didn't have this taste to it. The coffee was cold. Had to ask for refills. Had to ask several times for syrup for the pancakes and French toast. After we got our food, we were told that the credit card machine was down and we would have to pay with cash. This wasn't an issue because I had cash to cover the table, but there were several people that only had a card. Perhaps this was temporary but they cold have put up a sign or told us when we were seated. Even though the food was cold, it just had al all around bad taste. I would not venture up the hill to this place again.

I used to frequent the original pancake house often when I lived in the area and am wholly disappointed in the decline of quality.

We waited over 30 minutes for a table (which was the least disappointing part of the day for a busy Sunday) we were sat and asked for our order mere moments after receiving menus. When we said we were not ready it took our waitress several minutes to return. I ordered the brown sugar cinnamon toast and my friend ordered the bacon omelet. From a cost standpoint, we were never told that cheese in an omelet was not included (given that it may have been listed on the busy menu and I didn’t see it) nor that gluten friendly pancakes were an additional up charge. Our waitress didn’t return to our table until our food was being brought out nearly 45 minutes later. Neither of us were offered refills on our drinks. When I took a bite of my French toast, it was ice cold. I tried to flag our waitress down from across the room but she apparently did not see me.. all I wanted was it to be thrown in a microwave for 30 seconds. I chose to eat it cold because it was apparent that was my only option given that she didn’t come back to our table again to deliver the bill that we weren’t even ready for. Until the waitress had already taken my credit card, and run the bill- I did not notice the administration charge of 3.5%. I would’ve much rather paid in cash, but another charge that wasn’t disclosed. For an establishment that pushes an electronic service with the pads carried around by the waitresses, I’d assume that fee would be openly shared not slipped in on the backend. I guess I was wrong.

In short, go to Denny’s at the bottom of the hill. It would probably be half of the cost and least your food...

The Original Pancake House is a great place for breakfast or early lunch.

The omelets are great...you have your choice of either 4 or 6 egg versions. The 4 egg is difficult enough to finish, but the 6 egg is well nigh impossible...especially since each comes with pancakes. There's a Greek (feta, meat, spinach), an Irish (corned beef, potatoes, and cheese), and other versions as well.

If the omelets are good, then the pancakes are great. There are many varieties of pancakes (shocking, considering the name of the establishment!!!!). My favorites are the Swedish pancakes, with lingon berries, the cinnamon apple pancakes, and the cherry pancakes. There are probably about 20 more varieties on the menu. It's difficult to decide which to get.

There are also some specials..one egg or two eggs with bacon, ham, or sausage, for those with smaller stomachs than mine.

Only two complaints about the restaurant...the first is I have never not been here but that it's crowded. If you get there early enough, meaning before 9, you usually don't have a wait. Any later than that, though, and you're waiting. Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 30. The food is worth the wait, in my opinion, but your results may vary. Parking is also not nearly enough for the amount of people there or seats available.

The second complaint is prices. While not totally unreasonable, they are on the higher end of the scale, so be aware that a couple having a normal breakfast most likely won't escape for less than $25.

Those two things aside, I would definitely give this place a try. It'll become one of your favorite breakfast places in...

I eat here once a week, and usually love it. The gluten free pancakes are wonderful, well worth it. But after this last visit, I doubt I’ll be back. Two of us, ordered full order of pumpkin pancakes and 4 slices of bacon to share. Had iced tea, no problem. Well pancakes come out, right on the edge of burnt. But didn’t complain, we’d eat them. I took 2, my sister took 2. They were small, so there were 8 of them. Im eating, and my sister stopped. I asked what’s wrong, and there inside the pancake was a long dark hair. No way it could have been hers, she greying and keeps her hair super short, she works with food, gave the plate to the waitress, she took back and showed manager/owner Chuck. Couldn’t eat the rest or mine, it’s a long black hair. Ask waitress for bill, can’t even eat bacon. She brings bill, it’s the full charge for everything. I’d gladly pay for the drinks and bacon, but the pancakes? We ate maybe 3 of 8, and didn’t want to try any more. I asked for Chuck, and showed him the uneaten pancakes and bacon. I asked if we could at least get half off the pancakes, we didn’t eat. Waitress came back, he took 1.50 off bill. He charged us a short stack, 5-6, and that was it. We couldn’t believe it. Waitress Emily was so nice and apologetic, but that was Chucks decision. Well, my decision is not to go back. We were regulars, and this is how we’re treated. Long black hair inside pancakes, we don’t want to try anymore, so here’s 1.50 off. Hey, there’s other places out there that want my money, so goodbye Original...
