I used to frequent the original pancake house often when I lived in the area and am wholly disappointed in the decline of quality.
We waited over 30 minutes for a table (which was the least disappointing part of the day for a busy Sunday) we were sat and asked for our order mere moments after receiving menus. When we said we were not ready it took our waitress several minutes to return. I ordered the brown sugar cinnamon toast and my friend ordered the bacon omelet. From a cost standpoint, we were never told that cheese in an omelet was not included (given that it may have been listed on the busy menu and I didn’t see it) nor that gluten friendly pancakes were an additional up charge. Our waitress didn’t return to our table until our food was being brought out nearly 45 minutes later. Neither of us were offered refills on our drinks. When I took a bite of my French toast, it was ice cold. I tried to flag our waitress down from across the room but she apparently did not see me.. all I wanted was it to be thrown in a microwave for 30 seconds. I chose to eat it cold because it was apparent that was my only option given that she didn’t come back to our table again to deliver the bill that we weren’t even ready for. Until the waitress had already taken my credit card, and run the bill- I did not notice the administration charge of 3.5%. I would’ve much rather paid in cash, but another charge that wasn’t disclosed. For an establishment that pushes an electronic service with the pads carried around by the waitresses, I’d assume that fee would be openly shared not slipped in on the backend. I guess I was wrong.
In short, go to Denny’s at the bottom of the hill. It would probably be half of the cost and least your food...
Read moreThe Original Pancake House is a great place for breakfast or early lunch.
The omelets are great...you have your choice of either 4 or 6 egg versions. The 4 egg is difficult enough to finish, but the 6 egg is well nigh impossible...especially since each comes with pancakes. There's a Greek (feta, meat, spinach), an Irish (corned beef, potatoes, and cheese), and other versions as well.
If the omelets are good, then the pancakes are great. There are many varieties of pancakes (shocking, considering the name of the establishment!!!!). My favorites are the Swedish pancakes, with lingon berries, the cinnamon apple pancakes, and the cherry pancakes. There are probably about 20 more varieties on the menu. It's difficult to decide which to get.
There are also some specials..one egg or two eggs with bacon, ham, or sausage, for those with smaller stomachs than mine.
Only two complaints about the restaurant...the first is I have never not been here but that it's crowded. If you get there early enough, meaning before 9, you usually don't have a wait. Any later than that, though, and you're waiting. Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 30. The food is worth the wait, in my opinion, but your results may vary. Parking is also not nearly enough for the amount of people there or seats available.
The second complaint is prices. While not totally unreasonable, they are on the higher end of the scale, so be aware that a couple having a normal breakfast most likely won't escape for less than $25.
Those two things aside, I would definitely give this place a try. It'll become one of your favorite breakfast places in...
Read moreI eat here once a week, and usually love it. The gluten free pancakes are wonderful, well worth it. But after this last visit, I doubt I’ll be back. Two of us, ordered full order of pumpkin pancakes and 4 slices of bacon to share. Had iced tea, no problem. Well pancakes come out, right on the edge of burnt. But didn’t complain, we’d eat them. I took 2, my sister took 2. They were small, so there were 8 of them. Im eating, and my sister stopped. I asked what’s wrong, and there inside the pancake was a long dark hair. No way it could have been hers, she greying and keeps her hair super short, she works with food, gave the plate to the waitress, she took back and showed manager/owner Chuck. Couldn’t eat the rest or mine, it’s a long black hair. Ask waitress for bill, can’t even eat bacon. She brings bill, it’s the full charge for everything. I’d gladly pay for the drinks and bacon, but the pancakes? We ate maybe 3 of 8, and didn’t want to try any more. I asked for Chuck, and showed him the uneaten pancakes and bacon. I asked if we could at least get half off the pancakes, we didn’t eat. Waitress came back, he took 1.50 off bill. He charged us a short stack, 5-6, and that was it. We couldn’t believe it. Waitress Emily was so nice and apologetic, but that was Chucks decision. Well, my decision is not to go back. We were regulars, and this is how we’re treated. Long black hair inside pancakes, we don’t want to try anymore, so here’s 1.50 off. Hey, there’s other places out there that want my money, so goodbye Original...
