After reading all the reviews, to be completely honest we were kind of disappointed. As an individual who was born and raised in the Philly area, the chicken and regular cheese steak didn't really resemble the quality or quantity you would find most places in Philly. The cheese and chicken steaks don't have as much meat as you would expect for being almost $9. We went there expecting more in the $7 range, which is what was listed on the menu we could find online, but I guess that was outdated. In addition to being small, the chicken cheesesteak had chunks of chicken as opposed sliced (also how it is everywhere in philly) and the meat was fairly dry. I get this could just be how they do it, but when you mention South Philly in bold on the top of your menu, you'd expect something similar to what you'd get there. That being said the staff was really nice so I could see how people go often just for the service. Overall though if your looking for something more authentic and a better value, Defalco's is our go to and as close as it gets here, but philly's famous in Chandler is solid too (though definitely...
Read moreNostalgia...the perfect word to describe why this deli is so great. Nostalgia for the days of homemade deli flavors, healthy flavors, fresh flavors, flavors that you will not find anywhere but in your mind, at the place you remember eating your favorite deli sandwich when you were a kid. The recipes are classic, the food is simple, the bread is good, the ingredients are fresh, the seasonings are just that right-kind of, "This sandwich reminds me of that place we went to back when...." The location, the ambiance, the family-owned, and the price points continue that tradition, seriously. If any of these last four things were different, it wouldn't be the same deli. We traveled to eat here due to the many stellar ratings regarding the best sandwich/deli in the area. We were not disappointed. It is the old school feel, flavor, taste, experience and appreciation that makes this the perfect corner deli since the last place any of us ate, years ago, that we wish we could visit again. You can, here. Also, to keep in the old school style, CASH...
Read moreVisited Casella's for the first time last week after reading the reviews for the place on Google and Yelp. So glad that I did !! I walked in and immediately was greeted by Denise. I asked her what she recommended and was told the cheesesteak, meatball, and Italian beef hoagies. I went with the cheesesteak. Meat was perfectly portioned on a fresh hoagie roll. So fresh and delicious ! While waiting for my food to be prepared, the owner of the establishment Joe Casella came out to say hello and thanked me for stopping by. He told me how his 40 year anniversary was next month and was so proud of his little Italian Deli. This is an owner who knows food, knows his clientele, and knows how to treat people. If your looking for a fancy place to do lunch, this is not it. If your looking for friendly confines with delicious hoagies and cannoli, you've come to the right place ! Can't wait to go back ! Thanks again Joe...
