As a native of San Francisco's Mission District I cherish my authentic Mexican cuisine restaurants. Chicanos had become my home away from home and I could always count on a super affordable and delicious authentic Mexican meal. Loved this place.
Until 11/12/23 When a sub-par version of their carne asada was served to me in a burrito 🌯. Un-eatable in this Chicanos eyes, as the steak was very tough, and had too much cartilage throughout. I tried to get through it, but couldn't keep going. I let our well-known and super friendly waiter no that the burrito was uneatable and not right. Mind you I have been going to this restaurant since 2006 and have faithfully supported them throughout the years with constant patronization and endorsement. Well tonight I was told that they found no fault with their burrito and we're going to charge me a full price. Then they proceeded to tell me that I simply did not know what carne asada was actually supposed to be and that they had been giving me a different type of meat for many years before tonight. That was some other (child's version ) type my son had ordered? Whatever. Your incredibly loyal customer could not eat one out of their 1,000+ burritos ordered, and you won't just replace it for them? You charge them for something they could not even eat half of and left on the plate?
They offered me no resolution before leaving and I gave them lots of opportunity. I had always bit my tongue in this place when something we got was wrong because of the friendliness. That's all gone now. The service has never been excellent here, but we've always been patient with it because they were nice .Tonight that all ended when they took a condescending tone and essentially patronized and overcharged their long standing customer.
Hopefully the cost of that burrito was worth losing faithful customers that spend THOUSANDS of dollars there every year.
Grateful that we have many options now in the area for actual authentic...
Read moreI was nearby visiting my wife in the hospital, and I remember seeing some young man wearing a Chicanos t-shirt near my house which is about 1.5 hours away. So I decided to go by and get a couple of items to go and eat them when I got home. By the time I got home it was really late, but I decided to taste everything anyway and it was absolutely fantastic! Much better tasting than I was expecting and they were very generous with everything and their portions. I got the pork posole, which came with a couple of bean tostadas! To my excitement and surprise! And the Posole? Was both chicken and pork cooked into the stew, but here you have to choose whether you want to have pork or chicken. So this is something I was not used to and I thought I was going to be disappointed. Having chosen pork, when I rewarmed it the next morning I was unbelievably surprised at how fantastic this was, easily some of the best posole I've had in a decade! A carne asada burrito, which came with chips and salsa. And I remember thinking to myself when I picked up the burritos oh my gosh this thing is really a big burrito! I haven't seen a real size burrito since I left the West Coast in 2010! 😀 The taste was absolutely fantastic and it even had grilled jalapenos in it which just kicked the flavor up another notch! Not to be not to sound arrogant, but this Salsa was so good, it was like if I made it myself, super fresh! 🤩 I have to say my favorite thing was the chorizo tacos! Anyone that grew up with real Mexican chorizo and knows what they're exactly it's supposed to taste like and these tacos absolutely did!! Chicano's, Let me know if you guys sell your t-shirts, cuz I would absolutely and gladly wear one all over! I need a size XL! 😊 Great job, cocineros!...
Read moreBeen going to Chicano's for close to 20 years. If I go to Scranton, I don't even have to be hungry to stop in. Love this place. The steak tacos with cilantro and lime are a definite go to for me, the wife would get the al pastor.... delicious. The chimichanga and wet burritos are fantastic. Years ago my wife and friend had the whole fried fish, I thought it was snapper but I could be wrong. Either way they loved iton 4-5 different visits.... it was stuffed with herbs veggies, nice cuts on the sides to get the seasonings in the fish, then fried up nice and crispy.
Growing up in LA with authentic Mexican food all around, Chicano's is a...
