We had a fantastic first visit at Chifa Peru and would highly recommend it! We'll definitely be going back to try more of their menu.
The service was great - we were greeted and seated immediately upon entering, and our waitress was kind and attentive.
All the food we tried was delicious, obviously great quality and also generous quantity for the prices. To drink, we had the Kola Inglesa (a tasty red soda) and the chicha morada, a purple corn drink that was sweet and had a nice cinnamon flavor.
For our meals, we tried the half chicken and Kam Lu Wantan. The Kam Lu Wantan was a BIG serving with large pieces of meat, vegetables (snow peas, green peppers, and onion), pineapple, delicious fried wontons, and a red sauce that was similar to sweet and sour, but with more flavor.
While that was great, the chicken was the real standout - incredibly flavorful skin and meat, juicy and tender. The breast was drier than the dark meat but certainly not dry. The green sauce is the perfect compliment - herby, creamy, and a bit of spice. The fries were crispy and perfectly cooked, and the salad with light creamy dressing cut through all the richness. And at such a generous serving, it really is a steal.
For dessert, we tried the cherimoya ice cream and flan and both were excellent - some of the best flan I've had! And the cherimoya ice cream definitely has to be tried - it's a familiar but completely new taste at the same time, custardy and fruity.
PLUS, when we got our check we also found out that, because we spent over $50 dining in, we got a free chicken to take home! It was carefully packaged, along with a tub of the green sauce - such a lovely surprise and generous giveaway. (I believe you can also get free 1/4 or 1/2 chickens for meeting lower spending thresholds.)
This is the kind of local restaurant we love to visit - unique and delicious food and great service. Definitely...
Read moreChifa Peru is a stunning example of ethnic cuisine. The pricing is moderate on most of the entrees, but not expensive. My partner and I stopped here for a date night dinner before our movie. Four out of five stars for the atmosphere, but that is only because they just opened, so business is slow, so it was kind of quiet. I really enjoyed that the food was top quality and fresh, but the dining room didn't feel stuffy. Casual-nice clothes were plenty sufficient.
They start you off with a complementary snack of some kind of air fried corn while you wait for your food. He ordered the pork fried rice. The pork was delightfully tender and juicy, and they cut it into good size pieces without it being too large to scoop.
I ordered the Beef Heart Skewers, which come in spicy, mildly spicy and not spicy. I ordered the mildly spicy and it was just the right amount of heat to eat comfortably. The flavor was rich and the meat was cooked perfectly tender and juicy. I also ordered the Cassava Fries, with came with a lovely sauce, which I believe was sour cream, jalapenos, cilantro and lime. It was moderately spicy, but went well with the fries as cassava is fairly starchy and will cut a lot of the flavor.
We finished off our meal with a piece of Flan. All I can say is wow. I have not had flan as delicious as that since my coworker from Venezuela made me one!
When we received our check, they give you little complementary soursop fruit hard candies. Overall an incredible experience. I will done here again...
Read moreNot impressed at all. Presentation, service, atmosphere, food totally mediocre. Wife had the mixed chaufa rice and looked and tasted reheated, greasy, dry meat etc. I had fish ceviche and was nothing but pepper and lime juice on a huge lettuce leave that didn’t fit the plate and doesn’t pair with ceviche at all. Atmosphere was noisy as it gets since they had a not so private party upstairs with nothing but loud music, wild kids jumping and running around etc. The server didn’t engage in any type of conversation or cater to us with basic industry skills “nada” and to top it all the manager then questioned why we didn’t leave a tip ? Really ?? It bugged me out, it was one of the rare occasion where I did not tip and for me to do that takes a lot , trust me it was nothing to be grateful about when it came to service, food, environment etc. First and last for sure! Even thou some people seem impressed by it don’t know why, it just shows they have never been to an authentic good Peruvian restaurant. I’d rather drive to NJ and get the real deal. We have been invaded with out of state people that are setting up shop here and unfortunately they’re not bringing anything that will improve or impact the area in a good way. Bad manners, attitude, jacking up prices like we are living in a metropolitan area so be ready to stand up for yourself otherwise the chaos of poor food & beverages industry is likely to infest the NEPA area,...
