Terrible disappointment! Don't waste your money. We went here because of the good reviews but either prior posters went to a different restaurant or there is huge inconsistency in food and service.
The food was average at best, nothing superb. Scallops and risotto lol just 3 small scallops! Risotto not good. Veal chop tasted ok, was overpriced, and was poor quality meat. Pallela did have all the expected components except for taste!
And just like other reviewers mentioned, the dining room lacked atmosphere and was freezing cold. Didn't the owner think to pay the gas bill? Or at least splurge for space heaters.
Also the server was useless as somebody already mentioned. Knew nothing about the menu. Could not recommend or describe anything. Forgot to bring an item we were charged for.
So in summary, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!! At least not now. If they are still in business in 6 months then maybe they got their act together and try then.

Read moreI don't like giving reviews on the first or second visit, but after dining several times at Mangia, it's time to give a review. The outside is unassuming but don't let that deter you. Once inside, the ambience is refined in a simple way. There is always good music playing also. All the staff is friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu. The food is excellent. It is prepared as good Italian and Spanish food should be. Simply. It is flavorful and cooked to perfection. It is not overly salted, spiced or cheesy, so you know the chef knows what he is doing. The portions are more than adequate for the prices charged. We have tried the specials as well as regular menu items. All were delicious. The bar is well stocked and the cocktail specials are hand crafted using real fruits and juices. We have never gotten sick from the food and have never been disappointed. Everything is freshly prepared. We drive an hour to eat here and it is well worth the drive. Scranton is lucky to have...
Read moreMangia Bistro and Bar offers New York–style Italian cuisine right here in Scranton, and it absolutely delivers! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm, modern, and welcoming — the perfect mix of upscale and comfortable.
I started with the Lobster Bisque, which was smooth, creamy, and full of rich, buttery flavor. You can taste the freshness in every bite. For my entrée, I had the Pollo San Pietro — a perfectly cooked breast of chicken topped with Prosciutto di Parma, eggplant, sweet peas, and fresh mozzarella, all brought together with a tomato demi sauce. It was an absolute standout — the flavors blended beautifully, and every detail was spot-on.
To round out the meal, I enjoyed a Limoncello Spritz from the bar — light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. The service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing, and the staff made us feel...
