Lived in Dunmore/Scranton for 55 years and had never eaten at Russell's. So based on the advice of a few of our friends, my wife and I decided to go there for our 29th anniversary last night.
We weren't disappointed! The prices seemed a bit high at first, but the food was delicious ... and ample! Our waiter, Kevin, was very attentive and accommodating! He did a great job pacing his visits to our table. He was friendly, patient, and thorough!
The food was outstanding! My wife and I had the calamari and marinara appetizer (they give you the tentacles as well!). Delicious! And we both had the same special ... penne with with hot sausage, meatballs, red and green peppers, and Parmesan. We had to take some home!
For dessert, we shared a very large slice of coconut cake. It was good, but the icing was very, very sweet. But we polished it off anyway :)
My only complaint, besides the overly sweet icing on the cake, was that the place was loud, and that was because we were seated next to 2 parties ... a table of 12 and a table of 8. But it wasn't bad.
Oh, and when we told our waiter that we had a great anniversary dinner, he told us, "Hold a sec. Be right back!" and came back with a little gift!

Read moreI worked there for probably 3 shifts about 3 years ago (a little late I know) however to not share my experience would be a travesty. The bread they serve to the table is reused from previous guests that were not foolish enough to eat it, the milk refrigerator smelled of spoiled dairy product and if milk was past the sell by date it was served anyhow. The people cooking in the back were far from clean and should be checked for IV drug use. The owners wife thought she was a celebrity and would get giddy if a denaples were to call to request a private room (this would make me laugh). The 2 young servers would steal tips and take extra tables and when the older servers would say something their concerns were ignored. After the red head server stole a hundred dollars from me (we split a very large party) I never returned, never called. I've worked in many restaurants like JJ Bridges, Cafe Rinaldi & Granteeds Pizza but Russell's was by far the most expensive and most filthy of them all. Save yourself a hospital trip and head...
Read moreA bit slow on food delivery but worth the wait. Back in service after the pandemic, making it a treat for many whom have been under the weather. The food was a celebration of the finer things in life. From the appetizers to the end of the main course finishing with Irish coffee and great conversation. This is not a secret place to the well off citizens of the community, but it should be, so the service can be more on point on their delivery. Thumbs up for trying, two thumbs up for the tender steak (might I add, better than RuthC) and other selections from the menu. From our party of six with JR, we celebrated not only him as a wonderful person but also the wine selection, the unique flavors of each dish. Thank you Russell Preno’s Restaurant, as always, it was a pure delight in eating at ur place. Making ppl feel welcome coming and going. Continued success on the finer things in life.
