Update:
We ended up eating here 4 times total over the course of our business trip and here are some additional thoughts...
Our favorite dishes were the ribs (non negotiable, you HAVE to order these when you go), BMFC sandwich, any of their weekly sandwich specials, brussel sprouts, and the lush dessert (lemon is our favorite). The only dishes we tried that weren't mind blowing (we ate nearly the whole menu) were the mac and cheese and the chili. They were good, but when compared to the other award worthy dishes they serve, these 2 didn't stand a chance.
Service was consistently incredible each and every time we went. Drinks were excellent, restaurant and bathrooms are spotless. I literally cannot overstate how much we adored this mom and pop place. Out of all the places we ate, this was our favorite. Please stop by and support this local family run business.
I've never written a review on a restaurant, but I had to for this...
I'm in town for 4 weeks for business. Eating at a new place each night started to become more of a chore than a treat. For context, I'm from Texas where flavor and spice are BIG. I'd been mostly disappointed in the local places (no hate). I took ONE BITE of this place's brussel sprouts and knew I was in for a treat. My business partner ordered the Philly Style burger of the week and I had a fried chicken sandwich. Both dishes were full of flavor and a surprising, and welcome, bit of heat by Texas standards. We ended our meal with a lemon lush which was the perfect amount of refreshing and sweet without smacking you in the face with sugar. My business partner very much enjoyed his cocktail and I loved that they had Mexican Coke in the bottle. And THAT'S just the food...
The atmosphere is relaxed, cozy, and welcoming. I especially loved the touch of the waitress immediately bringing a growler of cold water and cups. Service was quick and welcoming, but without hovering.
We made immediate plans to return later in the week. We spoke with our waitress and this is a family owned and run business. Can't...
Read moreClassy, upscale bars in the city of Scranton are hard to come by. Not only does Jack's defy convention, but delicious food, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a recently expanded import and craft brew selection keep you coming back.
While the outside is unassuming, the interior is beautifully done with a comfortable bar, plenty of tables, two rooms with comfortable couches, and a pool table that somehow doesn't feel out of place. The menu is short but the food is excellent, forgoing typical bar food for panini, antipasto, and some of the best chili in NEPA.
The folks behind the bar really know their beer and will have no trouble helping you find something you'll enjoy from the dozens of imports and micros available. There is also a rotating limited selection of vintage ales on hand; some of the best beers I've ever had have come from this cooler.
Jack's is certainly worth a visit! (And a second......
Read moreMy fiancé and I had a great Friday night here last week. We were seated in the cozy loft area right away when we arrived. We ordered a Manhatten, Cosmopolitan, Jack's Burger, BMFC, and the House Nachos. The portions given were a bit small in relation to the prices, but everything was delicious and the service was speedy. They bring out and refill a container of water automatically, which was a plus, especially when consuming alcohol. Overall, this is a nice, peaceful little place to grab a drink and a bite to eat if you're...
