If you are looking for fancy, this isn't it. If you would like to be dropped into Somalia, it's exactly what you're looking for. Mostly, it seemed frequented by young Somalian men taking a break from bus or Uber driving. It made our companions reluctant at first. As a person who adores cultural sharing, it was my thing. I would have enjoyed it even if I only had one of their delicious mocha frappes, ( our companions' kids fought over it) or perfect -for- a -hot -day fruit smoothies. Our companions shared an unknown chicken dish with fries, and seemed to really love it. We shared the Kati Kati. Seriously, it was one of the tastiest things we have eaten. We had trouble stopping despite being "not hungry" when we arrived. What is Kati Kati? Fried flatbread and potato strips cooked with chicken in a sauce. Not sure what the sauce was, but it was the ultimate in comfort food with a twist. Think mac and cheese, tikka masala, pizza, bean and cheese burrito-- Somalian style, but without the plain taste. Not spicy, but there was plenty of heat to be had if we wished. Hot sauce in packets, some kind of green cumbery hot sauce reminiscent of tomatillo. We liked it as it was. The attached grocery seems the place for African refugees to send money home and shop for all the foods a store in Somalia or Ethiopia might have, and possibly in larger quartities. It allows those with cultural fascination, such as me , to enjoy language, foods, and... culture. It was an Africa melting pot in America. Seeing huge quantities of sacks with different kinds of flours, heaped meat packets, homemades breads and treats, and dried goods made me question whether our grocery stores actually represent our land of plenty. In comparison, they really are lacking real, basic, authentic food. It shook me, shocked me. Maybe something American consumers need to look at. How much of our food is really food? Anyway, I will return for more breads and Kati Kati, and...
Read moreAs soon as we came yo Seattle this halal spot was on our list. And it was worth it. They have a nice small menu but it has all the variety it needs. The guy who took the order was very nice and patient. He helped us providing options with our selection. We ordered the lamb and beef gyro and also the chicken gyro. It was a nice size for a meal. It was freshly made. Loved the spice they marinated the chicken with. The veggies were good too. We were unaware that it came fries. The price seemed reasonable too. A must if you visit here. We also ordered chicken steak. However, they did not have rice but had noodles which I was uninterested in. So he swapped it out with salad and pita bread. They give 2 big size steak. The salad was good too. I did both like the fries that cane with the steak. Gave a mushy texture. All in all a very healthy meal I must say. I also lived the spice that the chicken was marinated in. A must try also. I did not like the dumpster next to the parking. Very dirty and full. Parking was not hard to find but it is packed so there might be waiting during peak ours. Also the Deli is located in an uphill area so please be mind full when you are parking. I did not see any restrooms. They have a nice grocery which has a common door with the deli. Restrooms are available there. Nevertheless do come here if you...
Read moreGood: restaurant was clean. Smoothie was really good. Not so good: We ordered gyros and chicken wings. Gyros were very sweet, especially the sauce which seemed weird. No veggies on it. Just meat and sauce. They would not give me a receipt. I need one to be reimbursed for a business meal. They automatically get a.low rating for that. They were moderately polite but definitely not friendly. This restaurant came up as a Mediterranean restaurant, and I have been to.many, as well as visiting areas of the world.that are considered "Mediterranean". But this restaurant was nothing like any Mediterranean restaurant I've ever been to. I was hoping to love this place because of the great reviews...
