I’ve had a lot of sushi over the years, but Sushi Hama truly stands out. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the care they put into everything — the space is warm and inviting, with a calm, relaxed vibe that immediately sets the tone for a great dining experience.
The sushi itself is outstanding. Every piece I tried was incredibly fresh — from the buttery salmon to the rich toro and delicately sweet scallop, each bite just melted in my mouth. You can tell they source their fish with intention and pride. What really impressed me was the sushi rice. It was seasoned perfectly — just the right balance of vinegar, slightly warm, and with that ideal texture that holds together without ever feeling dense or sticky. It’s something that often gets overlooked, but here, it shows how much the chef respects the craft.
The rolls were creative but never overdone — beautifully presented and balanced in flavor. I highly recommend the albacore special and the crispy rice with spicy tuna. Even the appetizers, like the miso cod and garlic edamame, were memorable.
What tied everything together was the service. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. Our server was knowledgeable, gave great recommendations, and you could feel that genuine hospitality that’s so rare these days. The chef even surprised us with a complimentary piece of sashimi that was probably one of the best bites of the night.
Sushi Hama isn’t trying to be flashy — it’s just quietly excellent in every way that matters. Great food, great people, and a place you’ll want to return to again and again. This is the kind of spot you tell your friends about — after you’ve made your next reservation.

There were four of us in my group. We sat down, were offered a single menu, and told to use the QR code for everyone else. Not only do I find the idea of QR code menus unacceptable; I didn't have good enough service to load the website, and they didn't offer Wi-Fi. If you're going to ask me to look at a QR code menu you'd better make sure I can access it.
Moving on. We were given waters which were never filled the remainder of the visit. They missed an entire person's order. Each person's food was brought out at completely different times. Service was bad, really bad.
I'll admit food was okay at best. Not worth the price I paid. I only ate here because I found out the other Sushi place on main had closed. Definitely will...
Read moreDecent little Japanese restaurant in the seal beach area. The highlight was a salmon skin salad that was bigger than expected with a delicious dressing. I had ordered Yakisoba but was informed 20 minutes later it was unavailable sadly. I tried the spicy miso ramen instead. It was super spicy. I love a good spicy dish but couldnt finish this because the heat. The noodles were very tasty in this dish . Husband had some hand rolls which he enjoyed. We also tried a squid geso which was alright . Would have been better with the traditional spice on it not the mayo they served it with. I would go back for the Salmon skin...
