This 52-plus acre park hosts a gorgeous view of downtown Seattle and Puget Sound. It's great for leisurely walks, which i try to do before work and during lunch break, since I work just a few minutes away. My wife and I enjoy a picnic theere on weekends. You can drive a bit south on Beacon Ave and get delicious Filipino deli food at Fou Lee Market. Try the kare kare.
There are two tennis courts with no backboard. There's plenty of playground gear for little kids. I think that there is a wading pool for tiny tots in the summer, not sure. There are pavilions, picnic tables and barbecues, though they might be restricted due to Covid-19.
There is a big parking lot and next door are a golf driving range, a lawn bowling club, a BIG community garden, and a golf course across the street. Before Covid-19, Filipino farmers from Eastern Washington held a market in the parking lot on summer Saturday mornings. I hope that this comes back!
We have joined friends under our canopies for birthday parties at Jefferson Park. It never feels crowded, though on weekends, the parking lot does fill up.
Recently my Google Maps took me to street parking on the south side. You can search for Beacon Food Forest to get the same result. That's the community garden. You will find sidewalks leading into the park.
UPDATE 6/6/23 I went to Jefferson Park and walked 3000 steps about 7:00 a.m. on a Tuesday morning. So pleasant!
Sometimes the Jets overhead drown out my podcast. At least the noise of the trains is off in the distance and not too loud.
It's very sparsely populated at this time of day. The other walkers are pleasant with a nod of greeting.
Take your own bottle of water at that...
Read moreJefferson Park centrally located on Beacon Hill is a relatively newly recreated park. The park itself was a result of 911. Located on this piece of sprawling land that boardered a smallerpark, was one of the city's largest open to the atmosphere water treatment plant for the city of Seattle. After 911 Homeland Security required the City of Seattle to put a protected cap on the plant and provided the funds to do that. Once the cap was built, jefferson Park was built on top of the cap. It became an amazing neighborhood park for the community with playgrounds, ball fields, skateboarding park, lawn bowling facility, adjacent golf driving range that is part of an addition to a golf course across Beacon Ave, picnic areas and miles of walkways with amazing views that attracts joggers, bicyclists, and even...
Read moreIf you need. Fun park, this one is it. Lots of structures, open fields, and space. From a skate park to multiple types of play spaces, it has all the traditional parts.
However, MY FAVORITE thing is the Food Forrest. It's all the way on the west side of the park. Opposite side from park parking, so either park off Columbia or plan to walk all the way over. Which isn't a bad walk.
I reccomend you check out the Beacon Hill Food Forrest website and social media before going, just to get a feel of what it's all about. Lots of walking areas and tons of foraging encouraged (as long as it's not in the Pea Patches! Don't worry, it's easy to find a sign and avoid if you give a quick look). They also have tons of fun volunteering you can do, even during these covid times they have solo work they...
