Some of the best food I eat often comes from a food truck, a small family cafe or a local dive. Taqueria Techuacan is a food truck located in the parking lot adjacent to a Shell station in the Rainier valley. It is some of the best Mexican food I’ve eaten in the city. The flavors are reminiscent of those I tasted while on a trip to central Mexico. I am partial to their Pollo Asada and the Carnitas plate. The pollo is a half chicken that is well seasoned and always with crispy skin and succulent, tender flesh. The carnitas is juicy roasted pork with sautéed onions and peppers. (Although once the pork was sautéed too heavily to induce crispness, which dried out the meat!). My husband can’t move off the Carne Asada which is equally tasty. All come with the standard sides of beans, rice and tortillas. Portions are generous and I often have enough left for breakfast. It’s usually very busy at lunch time but they are open till 9:00pm. I also noticed that no one working was wearing gloves and the women at the window was touching money ( great way to pass Covid around) then rolled my burrito without washing her hands. Being a Cali native with Mexican roots, this is hands down the first time I felt like the tacos here in WA tasted like how they're supposed to taste, AUTHENTIC. You rarely find that here.
