I would like to preface this review with a few statements.
First, I have given this place more than one chance to change my decision and it has still failed to meet my expectations.
Secondly, this has nothing to do with the wait staff or anyone personally. This is a review of just the food.
In addition, I do not like to give bad reviews but this one was worthy of my distaste.
When it comes right down to it, Italian food should be a few things... Hearty, Fresh, and homemade. Giuseppe's does not meet any of the criteria listed above.
When my girlfriend and I dined there, we ordered 3 things, Focaccia bread for an appetizer, I had the pasta trio (Manicotti, Cannelloni, and cheese ravioli) and my girlfriend had the Fettuccini Alfredo.
Well the foccacia came out.... well picture is attached.
That is (store bought) french bread, Mozzarella cheese, and poorly diced tomatoes, no spices, no garlic, no olive oil, no flavor. A quick search of Focaccia bread should yield the result (also attached). Something that feels like the love child of corn bread and garlic bread, and not a drunken snack of leftovers at 2 am.
The pasta trio did look promising though. Nice melted cheese on top, sauce was a good color and the food was hot. However the sauce was very much from a can, not a single slice, dice or shred of actual tomato was in this sauce. No decent sauce should have zero chunks, even most jarred sauces have chunks of tomato that you can identify. But still I ate it, cause I was hungry. The ricotta was very abrasive, sour beyond belief, the ground meat inside was a strange texture, almost similar to what you might find in a canned ravioli. All in all at least it had some flavor.
My girlfriends fettuccine alfredo was the worst offender. She took one bite and I could tell something was wrong. I tried it and all I could taste was cream, seriously. Alfredo is a very simple sauce that should consist of (at a minimum) Butter, garlic, heavy cream, and fresh parmesan cheese. I just don't understand how someone can serve that, quality control should be on the list of things any restaurant should keep at the highest priority.
And the last offender was the garlic bread. I read a few reviews that maintain this is home made... well possibly home baked but not home made. It has the texture and consistency of mass produced rolls similar to the ones you would find for free at Texas road house or Olive Garden. And when baking bread home made, there are a lot of irregularities when rolling, shaping and proofing of dough. Tell me, (from the last picture posted) does this look like its done by hand or a machine?
In conclusion, it makes sense we were one of two tables there at 6 pm on a Thursday night. Please Giuseppe's, I want to love you, but I can't with food like...
Read moreWanted Italian food for the evening, always have Olive Garden, so we decide to try this place due to descent reviews.. Pulling up to restaurant first thing I noticed was for a Saturday lot was pretty vacant. So we park get off and head inside, upon entering the restaurant the first thing we noticed is that is was humid and hot inside, like the AC was struggling or they had it high to save cost. The young lady at front ask us would you like a booth or a table we chose table. Establishment was nice and clean inside as we looked around.. So we order cheese sticks for an appetizer, and got a salad with our meal before our entree..We received our salads with a house dressing, and I can say it was pretty plain. Salad had some spinach light greens a half of slice of tomato and a sprinkle of cheese, it was just ok, no onions, croutons, olives, probably the most basic and underachieving salad I ever had. So onto the entrees my wife got the egg plant parmigiana and pasta and I got the chicken parmigiana. The wife said the egg plant parmigiana tasted like it was soaking in old oil for a very long time before they decided to cook it, and it was so over loaded with pasta sauce couldn’t taste anything else. My chicken parmigiana was ok it was also so over loaded with sauce it’s almost like they are burying everything underneath it.. I have to say the only thing that was good during the whole thing was the bread that they brought out that tasted fresh and was good.. The cheese sticks we had were OK The salad was OK. I have to say for it being a Saturday with nobody there an empty restaurant, a hot and humid location. Very poor service, This has to be one of the worst Italian restaurants I’ve ever tried.. I’m sorry to give a review like this, but I love Italian food and this place just doesn’t have it. We will not go back. I think even given it a rating of a two is over scored.. and the pay over $60 that tasted like something being worth like 10 bucks at H-E-B would’ve been more along the Price line for that food.. So if you wanna spend a lot of money and not get very good Italian food, give it a shot may be good to some other people, but for me and my wife We will...
Read moreOur first visit here and from the outside this restaurant really feels like a shifty nightclub you don't want to hangout in the parking lot of. But the interior was very presentable and boasted a really well sized dining room with a bar, and a stainless steel clad kitchen. There was some Tuscan style painting on the walls and ceiling plus a mural of notable people like the godfather and good fellows by the bar. Our waiter Niam (sorry if I butchered the spelling) was so pleasant and provided top notch service. He gave us recommendations, kept drinks full, and even apologized that we had to wait for our check (they got busy) while personally boxing my leftovers to go. The food was well presented, salads actually served on chilled plates, rims of plates were clean and everything was neatly put together. We were served tasty bread and butter. The calamari appetizer was cooked to a nice supple and crunchy texture and had a nice half lemon for garnish. My husband had the shrimp Alfredo and I took our servers suggestion on the chicken piccata (I was torn on between dishes). Our food was served with extremely generous portions and no shortage on sauce (possibly a tad overboard but we definitely couldn't complain). Although plates were between $14-$24 I was happy to have a portion to take home but I'd definitely recommend splitting with someone or kiddos on the adult plates if leftovers aren't your thing or just forget the appetizers. Really positive experience and their menu boasted some good seafood choices along with veal. The restaurant started to fill up as 6pm hit so if you are an early diner you would probably enjoy the speedy service. The vaulted ceiling did make for a noisy experience the busier it got. I didn't see any meatballs on the menu but may have overlooked them. Overall our first experience was excellent and I conveyed my compliments upon checkout. Also there is big truck and eighteen wheeler parking right...
