My passion for cuisine and cocktails as well as my many years of restaurant experience leads me here and I would be remiss if I did not review the new Cast Iron Chef Pizza & Bar … of course it’s all in the name…. The pizza is a must! I actually crave it . Loaded with toppings or not, it’s hot , crispy and consistently delicious. The complementary artisan popcorn is a scrumptious appetite stimulant and the menu has something for everyone. The nightly specials bring a bonus addition to the table at a more than reasonable price . The atmosphere is trendy yet casual, they don’t spare with the entertainment- bingo night , great bands, and fantastic acoustic nights. I’m sure there is more to come. The service is good. The staff are dressed neatly , are very attentive, and they look like they are having a fun time . They appear to work well together and that is a major driving force in this industry. With all that said, I’m sure they have kinks to work out - all new places do. Nothing is perfect . Nonetheless , this is a great addition to Seymour and the Valley, and having lived there the last 20 years , and now transplanted to East Haven, I have taken the 35 min drive several times since they opened- and I drive past many great restaurants on the way ! Oh, I left out the part about the dessert…. The cast iron brownie a la mode is scrumptious :)

Man, if I lived closer to this place, I would definitely be a regular! Great happy hour specials, great draft lineup and they even had live music when we were there at 5pm on a Friday. Owners were nice and this place definitely seems like a great part of the community. They were setting up for a benefit for someone in the community while we were there which was cool to see. Pizza was good, loved the sauce, though wish it was a bit less done. But I would definitely get it again. We also had a sundae and cookie skillet, both of which were great!

Jacqueline, has 1 of the best attitudes I've ever seen. Whether it's behind the bar, or taking care of the dining room, she's always willing to lend a hand to the best of her ability! Roland, usually day times during the week is fantastic behind the bar among doing others to help keep the place clean and running smooth. Tracy, usually works evenings and no matter how busy it is always seems to make sure drinks are made perfect with little to no wait times. All 3 are fantastic!

It's taken me a bit of time to write this review because I wanted to settle out my initial feelings and make sure what I wrote wasn't out of the anger I felt the night we had gone to Cast Iron for dinner. We went on a Saturday night for an earlier dinner. An older singer was setting up for some Frank Sinatra type music. I don't know what I was expecting for vibe , but it wasn't such an older crowd with a huge empty dance floor in the middle surrounded by the elderly and a roving loud singer. Regardless, that was ok, but it made for an odd atmosphere. It was our extremely unfriendly waiter Roland who really made this a terrible experience. When we go to a new pizza place, we typically like to order several different kinds and take leftovers home so we get a taste of different toppings and see how we like the pizza in general. When my husband and I ordered three different pizzas (they said 12 inch round so we were expecting a little bigger than personal size or about a small in other pizza places), Roland, who had a pretty flat personality up to that point, said in a snotty and judgy manner - "You know how big these pizzas are, right?" Considering it was our first time there, I will say no.... We didn't know how big the pizzas are other than being 12 inches and in a cast iron skillet. The way Roland snapped at us made us feel stupid for wanting to order 3 pizzas, so I held up my hands and said "uh ok, fine we'll just order two." There was definitely a different way he could have said that in a much nicer manner. We had some steak and cheese egg rolls for an appetizer that were greasy and underwhelming. The pizzas were super greasy- I felt like I was eating Crisco. You could smell and taste the oil. It was off-putting, and I was actually glad we didn't order a third. Roland never came back to refill drinks or to check on us. In fact, he ignored us completely. We ran out of drinks. My husband had to actually get up and ask him for the check because he would not come over to our table. The bus boy was friendlier and more polite. I was going to pay with a credit card, but it was taking so long for him to come pick up the check that I decided to pay with cash. I also started to write a note, but magically Roland decided it was time to show up. I told him - your attitude about the pizzas as well as letting us run out of drinks was terrible service and there was a better way to handle things. He tried to make some excuses, but I was furious by this point and left the cash in the bill and told him we would not be back. Didn't tip and had a horrible stomach ache...

The staff was friendly, but it felt as though it took awhile to be checked on or listened too. The waitress was very nice and she even bagged our food for us which was nice, you don’t see that too often anymore. They close their kitchen really early unfortunately and we wanted to order dessert at 9:10pm and the kitchen was already closed by 9. We spent about $70 before the tip and unfortunately felt rushed because they close so early. The menus seemed a bit flimsy and not really what you would except when going out for a nice meal. They charged us $3 for a soda in a small plastic bar cup and when we each had one refill? They apparently charged us another $3 per soda in a small plastic cup. First, I believe that is a ridiculous amount to charge for a small soda and then to charge for the refill on such a small cup size. We spent $12 on four small sodas they with the large amount of ice packed into it, makes me question how they think that’s a fair price or practice. Again the food was really good, but honestly if there is a next time, we would probably stick with water and most likely order much less food. They had Karaoke which was fun, but after not being able to get dessert and finding out that we were charged so much for our small drinks and refills, we just wanted to leave and so we did. The layout looks really nice and and the karaoke was fun, but I’m not sure how long that would last if they close so early. I wish them the best of luck, but that’s my honest opinion...

I ordered wings through Uber Eats, opting for the faster delivery, which promised a 20 to 25 minute wait. I got a notification that a driver was on the way, so I expected my order soon. However, 25 minutes later, a new driver was assigned. When I messaged this new driver, he said he was at the restaurant but they were searching for my order and might have to redo it.

Concerned, I called the restaurant. A girl answered, and when I asked if they were busy, she laughed and asked who I was. I asked again if they were busy, and she said no. I mentioned my missing order and the Uber driver waiting there, but she claimed not to know anything about it. I asked for a manager, and she told me to call back at 5 PM before hanging up on me.

Frustrated, I called back, wanting to know her name so I could report the issue to the manager later. She hung up again. I called once more, and she accused me of harassment, even putting the phone down to tell someone else that I was bothering her.

This experience was incredibly disappointing. I’ve already paid, and Uber took the money, but the restaurant’s service was appalling. The staff were rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. I can now see why the restaurant has negative reviews. The concept might be good, but without competent staff, it’s doomed to fail. I won’t be returning and recommend others avoid...
