Had xmas party with my job. (I believe party of 40) ▪︎Couldn't order a drink, no one around Then couldn't keep my soda filled. (That is one of my top items for juding great service). ▪︎0 If they want service water, then they shoukd have put a pitcher if water on each table........ ▪︎When I asked for water at the same time as my soda, I was told there was water on some counter in the back of the room. I am handicap & so is my husband, never received water..... ▪︎I got salmon, was dried out. Clearly over cooked. My co-worker had over cooked chicken, burnt and dried out. Another employee talked about they chicken it was aweful (dry). ▪︎I told a gentleman working the floor in out area, about my dry salmon. They did bring me another piece if Salmon that was good......I truly appreciate them making the effect to correct it. ▪︎My meal had mashed potatoes were good, but the vegetables, they were cold. My husband got a steak (we had 3 options: chicken, steak or Salmon). My husband's Steak was cooked to order, (Thank goodness), he even offered me some, so had something that was yummy to eat.......kudos for steak we could eat...☆ ▪︎We can pretzel things & Artichoke dip stuff. Those two items were good.....☆ ▪︎I had cheesecake. Looks good until you tasted it. The texture was strange texture, just wasn't good. No one at hour table liked it. One person got the chocolate (second option) and it was good, very rich. I git a photo of it. ▪︎Cheesecake is one of my absolute favorite deserts, I have travel 40 states, have never had one taste like this. I was even going to try to take it home, to try Not to Waste it, but I just couldn't Get Over the texture. ▪︎Had 2 cocktails: vacation, most coconut taste, was at least able to get it down (for the price), put will hippy dip. It was aweful. ▪︎No sauce for salmon, when I asked for some butter (I am wanted melted butter), to help with the dry salmon, so I could try to Chock it Down), she bringing me cold butter. ▪︎I don't blame the server. To me to kitchen & bar were at hit mess. And the bar, nasty alcohol drinks. ▪︎Deserts come out looking cute, but boy they taste different. ▪︎So this location buyer beware. They have some work to do. Kitchen over cooks food (drys it out). ▪︎They do have clean restrooms, & decoratedfor xmas, very nice touch. ▪︎And cute xmas tree set up in main floor area. But I myself, won't go back. Not a place I want to donate my money. ▪︎I pray our boss got a discount on our meals. And give that (discount, for bad quality food) to the server. She was working her but off, management did not staff our xmas party area with enough help (it was in big room) in back of the restaurant. It did have very nice table setting, cloth napkins. ▪︎▪︎Update: co-worker thought our server was (high) and I don't mean on life. It was a bug waste of money. Poor service and poor...
Read moreWe had a reservation at 2 pm for the Mother’s Day Brunch yesterday, our first time at Barley’s in Shawnee. While I don’t usually post bad reviews, this was the worst dining experience I ever had. I felt bad for my family because I picked Barley’s! We showed up on time for our reservation and we were seated in the Wheat Room, about as far from the buffet as you could get. We couldn’t even see it from our table. My son stayed at our table to watch our purses while some of us went to the buffet, only to find most of the options empty! My grandsons were with us and looking for breakfast options, pancakes and biscuits and gravy, and there was none of either. The sausage and bacon were both undercooked and the breakfast potatoes were also empty. Moving on to the other side that had the prime rib carving station things got no better. Mashed potatoes and gravy, empty. I can’t even remember most of the other dishes because they were all empty, too. When I got to the prime rib carving station there were two little end pieces that were so tough I couldn’t even cut them. When my son went down to get his food, there were no plates! It was a buffet! How could they have no plates? He had to wait until they brought more out. This was a reservation only brunch so they should have had some idea how many to expect and prepare for, but it was a total fail. My daughter went and stood by the pancakes waiting for a refill along with a young boy who was also waiting, and the chef carving the prime rib saw them and went to the kitchen himself to make them some pancakes. Thanks to him for doing that! When they finally brought out more biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were rushed and half raw - inedible. About all I ate was some salad and some fruit. Wish things had been better as I love brunch and usually enjoy posting a good review, but this time I can’t. Sorry, Barley’s, but we won’t...
Read moreThe hostess greeted us with a warm smile. She was friendly, seated us exactly where we preferred and offered a booster seat for my little one. Unfortunately, this is where the good service ended.
The server Kenzie failed to make any eye contact upon greeting, taking drink orders or even food orders. We ordered water (I asked for the kids water half full with no ice and asked for straws). Waters came with no straw and kids water completely full with ice. I reminded her we needed straws and ordered our alcoholic beverages and appetizers. She was gone for about 8-10 minutes after that so I grabbed straws myself. Another worker brought out the apps but we didn’t have silverware or plates. After about 5 more minutes our server still hadn’t returned so I got up and grabbed some plates myself.
When our server returned her hair was completely down and she was playing with it the whole time she took our order. At this time we ordered a beer sample.
Our food arrives (server wasn’t seen the whole time in between). Still no sample, and the rest of us wanted to order more drinks. We finish our meal, still no server, and drinks are all completely empty. When the server finally came back, I just wanted the check to leave. The prices weren’t correct, but I didn’t even care because I was so ready to go. So, I just paid it.
The food was fine. It wasn’t delicious, but it wasn’t appalling. It was just… fine. The thing I hate is dropping $100+ on just okay food and horrible service.
I used to come to this place at least once a week for happy hour. But lately the service is just so bad I will only go if someone I’m with really wants a good beer selection- as barelys has the best around.
I’m so very, very disappointed in today’s experience. The place was dead, there’s truly no...
