One word: Gross!
This Tanner's is in my neighborhood. I can literally walk to it. And yet, no matter how many chances I've given them over the years since they day they opened their doors, they continue to disappoint and disgust me.
I REALLY want to like this place. They are close and convenient. I want to support my local businesses to ensure they stay around. I've been to other Tanner's around town with much better luck. Sadly, the Shawnee Tanner's just doesn't seem to get "it."
Their wait staff is always rude - always. The bartenders are more pleasant but not too attentive. They serve beer in warm glasses and plastic cups. Ugh! Their food specials are okay, but if you ever sit at the bar you will witness how long your food sits, and sits, and sits, getting colder and being exposed to people coming in/out of the kitchen and bathroom areas. Yuck.
I try to give this place a fresh chance to win me over at least once a year. During my last visit, last week, I saw the kitchen staff routinely coming out to the bar area to drink beer (on the job). Not once did I see any of them with hats or hair nets. And I'm going to hope the lack of latex food serving gloves were because they left took them off in the kitchen. One of the cooks emerged from the kitchen and wreaked of cigarettes so bad I could smell the stench of ashtray and butts from a few tables away as he crossed the room. It really made me wonder if they are smoking in the...

Hostesses were at front door when we came in. Sign at the door said Seat Yourself, so we did. Picked a table & then sat waiting for over 10 minutes - without a greeting, no one took our drink orders, or brought waters. 2-3 different wait staff looked at us. Nobody even came by with menus. Started watching the clock, gave the wait staff 5 more minutes & finally walked. This Tanner's location is a poor representation of what I had considered a solid KC staple. Disappointing. Bar staff made eye contact with me as we left - with literally no one ever making any effort to serve us - & they still didn't say a single word to us. Place was maybe 25% occupied & looked to be very well staffed but somehow we spent 15 minutes just sitting there.....Whatever. Anyways, we'd had plenty of time to Google nearby bars/restaurants, & we bailed on Tanner's & went to a pub 5 minutes away. There were pinball machines - so, fun! Spot was lively - much busier than Tanner's - but we were served no problem. Kicker was, this pub's charred wings actually ended up being WAY WAY better than the charred wings I had wanted to get at Tanner's. So, we'll definitely be going back to the local pub - that place turned our night around & we...
Came in tonight at 5:30pm with wife and three kids, two of which wanted to spend their sixth birthday eating at Tanners. We sat and it was relatively busy but nothing terrible. Appetizers had already been ordered by the first of our party to arrive about ten minutes prior to our arrival. We had our drinks and sat for about twenty more minutes before the appetizers came out. From the time we ordered our food until we got it, it was more than an hour. Our waitress, who was actually great under the circumstances, said they were down a cook and the manager was in the back. So what?! We had two little kids with us! They were exhausted and hungry and getting harder to deal with. When the food finally came the people got theirs and one had to wait another ten minutes! That one, a casadilla, was free but so what?! It's utterly silly to have no kind of plan of someone quits or doesn't show up to work. To not even acknowledge that taking over an hour to fill a ticket is unacceptable is not the right way to operate. We will never be back to this location. 87th Street in Lenexa is a far better operation and College & Pflumm is great as well. Don't bother...
