There are at least two "official" Legend Larry's locations. I've only been to the one in Sheboygan, twice. First time was around 5 or 6 years ago, hungry and desperate, late on a Saturday night. That wasn't a good test, but I remember it worked for what I needed back then. More recently I went back to Legend Larry's with my family, since we were going to be in Sheboygan for a couple days, and because a friend had been raving about his love of a Legend Larry's licensed reseller of the wings in Neenah.
First off, this isn't a service experience at all really. If eating in, you'll have to lean up to the bar and tell them what you want. Might have to wait for other grubs to finish getting their drink orders in, before you'll get eye contact. There are little cards on the table to help you pick from their menu, but nobody will come out with a smile to help you or suggest anything. So points off for that, let's get on to the actual food.
We ordered a few different chicken wing varieties (sauces), but all had a similar buffalo sauce tanginess, which I didn't really want. Lot of breading, and just slathered in gooey sauce, that didn't really help me much. I wanted a good barbecue and/or honey taste, but it was hard to detect in the sweet tangy sauce version they put on. I've had worse, I've had AS GOOD from just about anywhere else, and certainly Buffalo Wild Wings is way better. Other food we had was obviously standard frozen items anybody could buy at Sam's Club, and this place just throws them in the deep fryer and serves them to you as their own appetizers or whatever. Bland. Boring.
Lastly let's talk about the price. Unless you order some mega-family pack or whatever, this place can be quite expensive. On my recent trip in Sheboygan area, we ate at 4 or 5 unique restaurants, and Legend Larry's turned out to be the most expensive of them all.
Atmosphere probably can be okay, depending on when you go. It's a bar. I suspect many order takeout, and don't actually eat there. I was very surprised at how the place was fairly empty on a Saturday night. I can only suspect the prices drive people away, because you aren't getting anything else out of it - no cheery waitress or great environment. They do have nice TVs on, so there's that.
Bottom line: An average small bar, serving very average food, with average service, but with above average prices. If you're crazy about chicken wings, I'd say you have to give it a try, otherwise you could get a more satisfying meal at Jimmy John's nearby for...
Read moreOne of the absolute strangest experiences I have ever had. The two men bartenders were bizarre. Two middle aged skinny odd guys, one was wearing a headlamp? We were having a nice time and then suddenly they turned on a strobe light in the kitchen. We thought it was weird and laughed it off. Then they started BLASTING music swearing and saying the N word incessantly. One of the bartenders/cook was vaping constantly behind the bar. I debated just leaving our food it was that loud, strange and uncomfortable. I asked if they could turn the music down nicely. They did barely. Two other guests went to pay saying out loud that they knew they wanted us to leave because they were turning on rave lights and blaring psychotic music. After that they turned off the weird lights and music. It was nice at least then that we and the other patrons were able to finish our food. We paid and tipped well even after all of that and left. Shocker, they didn’t say a word of goodbye or thank you. I would be ashamed as an owner to know that this is what was going on. I will never go back that was CRAZY. I’ve heard many other people say they had similar experiences, I feel bad that I didn’t believe them. I thought they were...
Read moreSuper great wings, the Thai chili was by far the best wings I've ever had, unfortunately I did not know there was no wait service so I sat down and realized I had to go up to the bar, unfortunately a couple came in and got to the bar before me. They got their wings 45 before I did well over an hour I waited. This was literally the first stop on my Wisconsin trip and first impression. Got in after dark so literally the first place in , I was getting pretty heated waiting there watching everyone else eat and be finished, finally got my wings and they were honestly the best wings I've ever had! totally redeemed! I even said to my friend," they better be the best wings ever or I'm going to be pissed." Well they were! the Honey barbecue was good but more like honey mustard, but the Thai chilli was incredible, highly recommend, just go on a slow day and go straight to the bar and order. Also looking at the design on the table I could figure out it was a buffalo wing with wings, not the clearest art, but it...
