After a waiter at another local Mexican restaurant recommended we try Sergio's, we made our first visit today and it was fabulous!
We were greeted and seated within seconds of entering. As soon as we sat down the server took our drink orders and offered to bring queso and guacamole, which we gratefully accepted.
When our server walked away to get our drinks, the owner came over to welcome us and to tell us about his restaurant. He was very hospitable and enthusiastic about his food and place. He made recommendations, told us about his daily ritual of making fresh salsas and guacamole and menu items, and then checked in on us four or five times more as we enjoyed our meals, both of which were wonderful.
My wife had fajita chicken quesadillas and I enjoyed a platter with street tacos (grilled chicken and steak, both of which were fantastic), and we are happy to recommend those meals to you.
The atmosphere was fun. The restaurant is what you might expect in a storefront in a sort of rundown shopping area, but it was clean, comfortable, and hospitable, and it had the energy and warmth of a local diner.
We highly recommend Sergio's Authentic Mexican Restaurant and we have no doubt that we'll be back, if...
Read moreWell, my wife stopped by for takeout after having found the line at Jack's far too long... Less than ten minutes from home, she picked up the chimichanga meal with rice, beans, and salad, and a side of chori queso, which all arrived cold, and in need of reheating in the air frier. This is our first and probably last experiment with this place. I've been eating texmex for several decades, and I know what good Mexican food, from a quality establishment is supposed to taste like. Every bite I took, whether it was a tortilla chip, the chorizo, or the rice, beans, and chimichanga, left a bad taste in my mouth. The only times I've ever experienced this bad aftertaste was from bad Chinese food. I'm willing to bet there's a freezer burn problem, or possibly an open container cross contamination here. The meal, which I feel's worth maybe $15, cost $26 according what I was told after having asked about the price. Taco Bell’s value menu has recently and repeatedly provided a better experience, and it's known to be a good choice for a quick,...
Read moreLet me start off by saying Hispanic food is my favorite type of cuisine. I cook it often and eat at many establishments in the shoals area. We have great restaurants here. With that being said there’s a new #1 in my Restaurant Power Rankings and that is SERGIOS!!! From the start I knew this place was going to be legit. The salsa was brought out in a chilled glass jar. You can tell it’s made fresh in house. The chips are homemade. A man I can only assume is Mr Sergio himself made DANG SURE everything was good. He made thoughtful suggestions and I truly believe he gets great joy by seeing satisfied customers. We got the birria quesadilla and it was delicious. The consume soup was rich and flavorful. The charro beans are made with conecuh sausage bacon and jalapeños. I could have ate a gallon of them. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough. Sergio’s is...
