Well I could not give this “5” stars even though I really wanted to. Let me start with the not so bad, but first let me say…If you are in Shelby, NC you should definitely stop in Verona Italian & Greek, you will not be disappointed!
My wife and I stopped in this establishment and were unsure of what to do when we walked into the restaurant, because there was no host at the door to show us to our seats. Instead, we heard a female voice from the back “Just sit anywhere you want.” NOTE: this is not a huge restaurant, but still. As we found a spot to sit, the owner actually took our drink order (more about him later).
Water was brought out and shortly after, breadsticks. Ok, so the breadsticks were roughly room temp, not great but ehh. So the only negatives were just walking in and the breadsticks.
Now time for the good.
The owner was very visible, very active and made this experience excellent. I asked him what he suggested, and he named a few things, but one stuck out to me was the Shrimp and Red Sauce (Shrimp Marinara), my wife had the Shrimp Scampi. They both came with a salad. It did not take long for our order to arrive. About my meal first, the sauce was freshly made and it had some chopped tomatoes and garlic that did not overpower the rest of the meal and the taste was light. My wife’s meal was similar but very different. I did not taste her shrimp, nor she mine, but it was a very simple and also lite tasting meal. We were both pleased with our meals.
I was most impressed with the owners servant leadership, as he worked in whatever capacity help was needed. After speaking with him, I was moved to also order a 10 inch pizza to go. The pizza was pretty tasty as well.
Room for improvement: Warm bread with maybe some garlic butter our olive oil with creaked black pepper. Sign stating, “Seat yourself” at the front.
This is worth the drive, I will be returning.
Oh, bring cash, because there is a 3.9% charge on your card otherwise, but there is a State Employees ATM about 100 feet...
Read moreFirst time being there not the best food ever dont think that philly cheesesteak is either Italy or Greek (dont understand the combo either Greek and Italian are VERY different) I walked not expecting much cause it looks from the out side very beat up kinda like a corner store where you get ur fav off brand soda but that's beside the point I read the reviews before I went in and it's all either people in their middle age that dont know what good food was unless it hit them the head saying "oh the food is great" or the reasonable human being who's is like ok food and bad service, and then it's just bad service bad service and oh bad service but that wasn't really the case entirely the place was dingey and kinda run down looking when you walk in the servers are in the back and there like pick any where we sat down there were greasy hand prints on the table a lady came over asked what our drinks where I asked if they had Pepsi or coke products and apparently that automatically ment I wanted coke I asked for no ice and that's what I got wasn't the most enthusiastic server I've had we had the fried mushrooms as a starter the didn't appear fresh at all the where breaded like you would bread fried eggplant and full of scolding hot water which means they weren't made right my brother had shrimp alfredo made with most definitely frozen shrimp and a grainy alfredo with HUGE portions and he wasn't feeling particularly good after
All in all it's not good everything is canned or frozen chicken dry as a desert mushrooms in my chicken philly where most definitely canned and weren't warm
Negative: servers aren't really rude just not enthusiastic and seem to hate their job food isn't fresh it's all canned or frozen dirty establishment
Positives: drinks are good lol
Wouldn't recommend unless your in mid 40's and dont know what...
Read moreJust ate at this establishment & although my food was okay my fiancés food was not he ordered the stuffed jumbo shells and I tasted it after he said it was nasty and we narrowed it down that it taste like hotdog chili meat sauce & super salty. It may have not been so bad if our server would have actually checked in after our food was dropped off. We didn’t have much interaction with him from the get go and when proceed to express our concerns about his food he attempted to slightly argue with us on weather he checked to see if our food was okay, which he asked me only but I can’t speak for my fiancés taste buds. As we were waiting in line to pay for this food he came over to the girl checking out whispering and staring. As we get up to the register to pay we had ZERO interaction with her, just very dry and nonchalant energy like we didn’t deserve a proper experience. This was not a great experience trying this place for the first time & there exployees don’t have any customer service skills when it comes to treating paying customers properly they argue with you about what they did and didn’t do. So if your unsatisfied with your meal don’t waste your breath voicing it because they don’t...
