Waffle House — Restaurant in Shelbyville

They're open 24/7/365, so when it's late night, they are a fairly decent choice for a hot bite to eat. I have had several items from their menu. I like the triple hash browns with chili, cheese, ham, and mushrooms, as one of my favorite sides to add to any meal.

Their eggs, bacon, ham (ask for the XL portion size of ham not on the menu f you're a big eater, haha), and most sandwiches are also pretty good to eat.

The staff is sometimes hot or miss, usually they keep drinks refilled fine and do a decent job. If you go about 3:30am on weekends just after the bars close then expect lots of drunks to be there eating too, ha.

The bar seating is a tight fit for big people, and the booths will not fit big people at all. They do have at the end of the booths in the corner a 2 chair area (probably handicap law required), if the servers aren't using it for their selves, haha.

They also have several chairs you can grab and pull up to a booth if you want to sit in the isle at the end side of the booth. For a 24 hour truck stop type place you would think they would have seating for big people, but being small restaurants they pack in more seats closer together.

The desserts are usually tasty for a late night treat, I like their chocolate, coconut, and other pies. No wonder I can't fit in their booths eating all those covered hash browns and dessert...

I was on my way home. And I was looking for a Mom and Pop's restaurant for breakfast. Out of the corner of my eyes spotted Waffle House. And couple turns around and I got there. I haven't been to Waffle House in years. And I'm sorry I haven't. What a well-oiled machine these three people were. They pitched in where they needed. I enjoyed my breakfast immensely. The cook scrambled the eggs perfect. The Grits were to die for, they were so buttery. And the toast was buttered to the edge. Plus delicious coffee refilled. My check was only $7.50. I was so impressed by my waitress that I gave her a $10 tip. And I handed her a $5 bill to give to the cook. Because I was impressed on watching him perform his artistry. I hope the regional manager sees this. Because that crew deserves a pat on the back. And a little padding of their wallet too! I will definitely go back there. I only get through there once a year. But...

3 of us arrived at 6 a.m. 12/24/23. One table left , "Ski" as they called him, greeted us at the table and turned us over to the best possible waitress anyone could have! Susan had been with the company 39 years and just lost a husband with similar time at this location. What a genuinely nice lady who was responsive to our needs, far exceeding our expectations. The entire staff stayed busy and the place operated like a well oiled machine, no pun intended. Everything was on point and exactly how it should be. When we walked out the door to leave , yet another employee giving us fare wells and cleaning the lot at the same time. Thank you Ski, Susan and the others , corporate should use you guys as an example of how things should be done. Our society needs this level of customer service everywhere. ...
