I am truly disappointed at where we chose to stay for our 3rd anniversary. The Royal Suite at the Bavarian Inn may have been, at one time, a luxurious and comfortable stay but has not been maintained to afford it more than two stars rating from me.
Good news: The food in the restaurant was great, and our server (Autumn A) was very pleasant, courteous, and attentive. The food was hot, and coffee was fresh. (And I am not really a coffee fan but had 6 cups!) The scenery of the property and surrounding areas were picturesque, and the people genuinely nice and greeted you when every you walked by.
Bad news: Our room, the Royal Suite, was bad. For our 3rd anniversary, we pre-ordered a wine and cheese package in which instead of being brought fresh to our room upon arrival, was instead dumped in the room at the available check in-time of 4pm (we did not arrive until 7pm.) Needless to say the wine was not chilled anymore plus the cheese plate had molded fruit on it! We called for another plate, and it came with different cheese that was a lot more staunch in odor and smelled up the room. The cleaning and maintenance staff needs to be fired... PERIOD! First. The tables were not cleaned as there were spots very visible that when wiped with a rag and water came right up. The shower was not cleaned at all and still had soap WITH HAIR from the last guest. The floor in the bathroom also had someone elses hair upon us just getting into the room. As far as the maintenance of the room... The bed was not on legs! The frame, box springs, and mattress were on the FLOOR. My wife has knee issues, and it was difficult to get in and out of a bed that was literally on the floor! The 2 chairs that were I. The room were bear up so badly they could not be sat in. The desk scraped my hand as I accidentally brushed past it because it was literally falling apart on the corners. Something that could easily be fixed with a quick trip to Home Depot was just simply neglected. The last to mention, even though there is more, is the beautiful windows overlooking the Potomac River had flies that were smashed on them and NOT WIPED OFF from the INSIDE! THIS IS JUST GROSS, FLAT OUT.
To have ordered the Royal Suite and been given this as their 2nd best available room was ridiculous.
Fair warning, this is NOT a 5 star, more like...
Read moreThis was our first time staying and also dining at the Bavarian Inn. We are locals, so this was a little mini-getaway. Everyone raves about the Bavarian, so maybe my expectations were a little too high. We checked in and made reservations for dinner. The grounds are beautiful, service was friendly and helpful. We went to our room, it is nice but a bit dated and not as clean as I would have expected. The bathroom had some mold in the shower, the bathtub had hair in it and was a little grimey, and there was something on the floor (in the grout) around the toilet. It was quiet, even being close to the elevator. The bed was comfy. Dinner. The restaurant was not full, but there was a wedding outside, so maybe staff was overwhelmed. The hostess was very nice. Service seemed slow to me, we had 3 different people at our table to take drink orders, set bread down, take our food order and then bring out our food. Nobody asked how we were doing or how the food was after it was brought out. My steak was overcooked and had very little chimichurri on it, it also had some other sauce underneath it that was just odd tasting. My husband's Rueben was greasy (but tasty). The meal took much longer than it should've, we didn't have appetizers (mostly because I am sensitive to many foods and couldn't really eat anything available). Then our server didn't return our credit card, it was dropped somehow in the dining room. Thankfully she found it. The website says the pool is closed, so I skipped packing my suit but there were people in the pool. So that was a bit disappointing because the pool is beautiful. The grounds are nicely kept, aside from being a dry but I know that is from the lack of rain we've had. Breakfast was the redemption. Our server was wonderful! The food was great. I wish I could've eaten the complimentary biscuits. I had to order a bunch of sides because of my special diet. The potatoes were delicious, just like my mom makes them. Bacon doesn't take like chemicals (much appreciated) and the fresh fruit was very tasty (not always the case). So, again, maybe it was my high expectations but I was a little disappointed. It definitely is not crossed off the list forever. It was a good experience,...
Read moreWe visited Bavarian Inn last night with high hopes after reading so many glowing reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. We were excited to try what we expected to be authentic German cuisine, but what we got felt like a poor imitation, clearly not prepared by someone with a deep understanding of the food’s origins.
We ordered the Jaegerschnitzel and Sauerbraten. The schnitzel was mediocre at best — chewy and completely underwhelming, especially for the price. It was smothered in a strange sauce that did it no favors and was paired with a bland, confusing side dish that tasted like a mushy pasta, though we couldn’t even be sure. We also asked for mashed potatoes, and what we got looked (and tasted) like it had been sitting around for days — dry, lumpy, and flavorless.
The beef, Sauerbraten, was the real letdown. It tasted like it had been cooked the night before and reheated, then drowned in an overly sweet sauce that overwhelmed the dish.
This was by far one of the worst meals we’ve had in a long time. Nothing about it resembled the renowned German cuisine we were hoping for. Unfortunately, it just felt like a poorly executed American version of something vaguely European. Would not recommend to anyone looking for a true Bavarian...
