Grandy's — Restaurant in Sherman

I hadn't been in there in years, excellent chicken fried steak(smaller than ,I remember ) & rolls, I love, love their rolls very buttery yeasty taste! There were just 3 issues that kind of bothered me,(#1), we both ordered just ice water , they gave us these little tiny plastic cups ,like when you're in the hospital and they bring you your pills, they give you that little clear plastic cup, to wash the pills down with, those were our water glasses! I assume , since it was free,& we didn't give them more of our money ? for drinks, I was thinking if it was free why didn't we get a regular cup ?, We were laughing only 1 ice cube would fit in these tiny cups with the ice cube 2 sips,,water was gone ! During our meal 4 TRIPS, just to get water that was VERY annoying Don't know WHY I didn't demand at least a small reg. Drink cup and then(#2 )we get our trays ,food came out quick it was already prepared so It wasn't "fresh" fresh, tasted good though, but then we go sit down get ready to eat ,no silverware, I get up get us each a set of silverware (No Where Near our Table ),all the way around the corner back at the order counter, sit back down we start to eat with plastic cutlery,, I take 3 bites, get a little gravy on my chin, go for a napkin ,NO napkins! got up another time and had to get us napkins why the napkins and the Cutlery weren't on our trays when they gave it to us I don't know( they're lazy!) so we got over that issue keep in mind ,including the stingy water RATIONS ? , this is 6 trips ,after I sat down at the table, MOM says there's no salt or pepper! I get up again go look where the napkins are it's not there not by the drink station so I turn around finally find it on the ORDER counter where you place your order in the plastic container with 4 compartments salt pepper sugar and Sweet and Low. ISSUE(# 3 ) the food was TASTY ,but the self-serve thing , leaving my meal a ridiculous 7 times before I was even halfway through my meal was very annoying, steak and mashed potatoes were of course covered in cream gravy which cream gravy is a liquid halfway through my meal ,it was already cold because of the cold gravy on everything I gave it at 2 mainly because the up-and-down 7! times was a pain !!! My MOM,80 yrs old,I take her everywhere ,she's declining ,I want to spend , as much time with her while I can anyway she is Forever The Optimist when I griped about having to get up 7 times during the meal she says honey look at it this way you're already working off that chicken fried steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, and rolls ! as usual ,MOTHER KNOWS BEST !!! Oh yeah guys ,I forgot another annoying little incident, ( there were sooo MANY) So I guess it's actually number (#4 )complaint, like I stated earlier I love love their yeast rolls, well in 2 bites I had eaten mine ,there's a young man bussing tables near us, I said sir can you please bring me one more yeast roll ? "Okay ,wait till I'm done" ,which was kind of rude, all he's doing is picking up dishes and then as he finishes that and is walking by he says "now you realize I'll have to charge you for that " and then I was shocked ,,when my little old eighty-year-old optimistic mom said "are you kidding me, that's ridiculous, here son have mine" and she gave me her roll, the guy walked off, I'm thinking to myself okay, that'll make him feel bad so he'll bring Mom another roll, so she can have one, NOPE ,he never came back if I wanted mom to have one I would have had to Gotten up for the 8th time and that's when she said "NO, honey don't worry about it my God your dinner is going to get cold, I said Mom it was cold 10 minutes ago!!! SO,yeah tasty food ,given to us steamy hot,BUT,by the time I played, (*upsy/ downsy ) half of it was cold which there goes the QUALITY, SO,over all a very disappointing visit.HM, maybe that's why I haven't been...

It's mediocre fast food, nothing more, nothing less what I had wasn't bad, I had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. I would have ordered the okra, but you could tell it had been sitting under that lamp for quite a while. I am forgiving for the food just being mediocre, especially when I'm eating somewhere at an off peak time. The thing that I'm less forgiving on is cleanliness being a manager in the food industry myself, I was surprised at the state of this place. The were several tiles that looked like they were about to fall down at any minute and the ceiling itself was covered in dust and build up. I always end up looking at the declining condition when I eat out, it says a lot about building upkeep and overall cleanliness of a place. The dirt was so bad that it was building up inside the light fixtures....along with the dead moth. Air vents put out a lot of dust particles into the air.....and I have a feeling your food got sprinkled with some extra stuff if you sat in the dining room. I would have left if I hadn't been with my parents, might dad really likes the food apparently. I know the building is old, but even old buildings can be...

Was not happy with the food or the service. The food was overcooked and tasted like last weeks leftovers. The employees were rude and unprofessional. The whole place could use a good deep cleaning, especially the bathrooms. I refused to use any part of the ladies room, not even to wash my hands. That is how filthy it was. My husband said the men's room wasn't much better. Thank goodness I had sanitizer in my purse. I even had to wipe down the table where we sat. It had not been cleaned in some time. There were two other couples in the restaurant when we were there. No one else came in during our time there. So, it's not like they didn't have time. There were more than enough emoloyees working for someone to have done some kind of cleaning. It was certainly more than disappointing. I've eaten at Grandy's all over the place and never had an experience such as this. When we moved to southern Oklahoma, I was happy to know that this Grandy's was close to my work in Sherman, TX.
