Sherman Skateland — Local services in Sherman

I will not be returning to this venue. We had a smorgasbord of issues and they were all magnified by the owners callous attitude. He is very well adept and providing lip service for these reviews but he follows up with NO ACTION. Read the reviews. How long have people been talking about broken skates, nasty bathrooms, and a bad attitude from staff? With the owner topping the list in offensive behavior it's no wonder he's getting slammed on reviews. I don't know how a place like this stays in business.

First problem- There was no staff at the skate counter.

After waiting 15 minutes we went back to the front to let them know we needed skates. When help arrived, our money was taken (roller blades have an up charge) and were handed broken skates. He promptly disappeared, which put us back at square one. After another 10 minutes, we went and tracked the guy down. He then gave us another pair of broken skates. He didn't even look at them, they were worse than the first pair. 4 of 6 buckles were broken, or missing all together. At this point we were pretty frustrated. Nearly 30 minutes of our two hour time block was gone. Rather than waiting on the guy I dug through the regular skates and found a functioning pair. No one noticed a customer was doing their job for them. My kids grew up on roller blades. We couldn't find a good set of blades so she went with regular skates. I won't even address the problems that caused.

Second problem- Refund for rental fee and owners bad attitude.

When I asked for my money back the owner acted as though I was being ridiculous to want a refund. I commented that broken or missing buckles on a pair of skates was a good way to twist or break an ankle. At this point, INSTEAD OF OWNING THE PROBLEM, he commenced to lecture me about the lower buckles being unnecessary. He claimed that so long as the top buckle was fastened all is good. When asked why the manufacturer would include 3 buckles, when only one was needed, he mumbled something then said “ I've only been doing this for 25 years, what would I know?”

Third problem- Hideous smell of stagnant urine.

I'm not talking about normal bathroom odors. I'm talking about a stench that radiates from the space. You smell it before you enter. I didn't want my kids to enter the room, let alone sit on a toilet.

Message to “owner”.

First and foremost, you don't need to reply. When people read these reviews they can see for themselves the pattern of complaints and the excuse filled responses. You would be well served to learn something about basic customer service. I'll share this one with you directly. The very best tool you have to disarm an upset customer is to OWN THE PROBLEM. The buck stops with you buddy. Had you simply stated something to the effect of “I'm so sorry I gave you broken skates, I should have inspected them better.” or “So sorry for the wait”, then I would not be writing this review. Instead, you lost a customer and got another negative review. I encourage you to change your ways before it's too late. You're in a tough business. You keep loosing customers and you will go belly up. Especially when there are other options in the area for skating....

Skate land in Sherman is a joke party was supposed to be $160 I paid $100 deposit added one pizza on line when I booked it that was in price ! Then when I go to leave they want $225 I say no finally after arguing I that they didn’t take deposit off they finally do still saying I owe $125 I was coming in thinking I pay $60 on top of not having any pepperoni for all four of my pizza. The bathroom is disgusting. There’s only one that works and it has a door that you can barely fit in. The other stall is closed in the middle stall don’t even have doors. The boys said there bathroom was nasty too and smelled really bad ! They had arcade machine stole the kids money and told about it. They said well we don’t really own the machine so we’re not giving you money back on that when we go to take the pizza home to go boxes for the pizza they didn’t have any ! Not many plates ! I told them can they take fee off for no pepperoni no to go boxes limited plates and nasty restrooms and conditions they said no I asked why it charge so much and they charge all kind of fees because they wanna make sure everyone gets paid well place is nasty and they made us get up from our party table 15 minutes before it was even time so another party could go there. when there was two other tables next to us that are in party rooms that are set up that never got used the whole time we were there . Whole place was nasty ! Arcade machine were broke only got party room for one hour which was in package but got to skate for 2 so at least there’s that ! I just don’t like that there’s extra fees and it isn’t included online with the pricing so you think the fees are in already and they are not when you add the pizza the extra pizza it shows it like it’s adding it in the price. My fault for not reading the print and calculating all that together. But I did they had no pepperoni for the pizzas and all the pizzas were pepperoni. They didn’t have boxes or anything for us to take the extra slices in. I figured they could at least...

I paid $200 to have a party that was supposed to be $160. The kids were supposed to skate until 4pm and then go into the room to have the party with pizza, drinks, cake and gifts. During open skate other parties were called to their room and their party ensued. At 4:15, our party still had not been called. I gathered everyone myself and assumed pizza, drinks, plates and utensils would come shortly. After waiting over 30 min, I went to get some plates. I was given plates, but no forks or napkins. I finally went to get them myself. When the pizza finally came, (about 10 min to closing time) it was the most disgusting pizza any of us had ever had. We were then supposed to go into the money blowing machine, but there was no worker to be found. I sought her out again and she told me to gather our party and go to the machine. I asked her to call everyone over the loud speaker so I didn’t have to waste time walking all over and screaming across the rink to get everyone over there. She didn’t. The machine did not work. There was 1 paper flying around and he was not allowed to pick anything up off the floor. After the money machine (rink now closed), he was supposed to put a handprint on the wall. Again, I had to seek out a worker and ask if he could do it. She told me they didn’t have any paint and then told me they do have paint, but that it doesn’t come off the skin. I finally got her to get some paint and we did the handprint. It came time to pay and I had my receipt on my phone where I had paid $100 and owed $60. She told me even though it came from their website, it was not their company that the receipt came from. She made me pay $97 more.
