Pupusas! The staple dish from their culture (on the right). What you see here is a breakfast dish that is served anytime of the day. White cheese on the left is next to their flavor of sour cream which tastes sweeter than American sour cream. Fried plantains are a type of banana which are best eaten fried. Scrambled eggs with some small pieces of bell pepper (not hot). Their re-fried beans are black beans instead of pinto beans. Chips and salsa that isn't very spicy, and not thick. Curtido tastes like a spicy version of cole slaw made from cabbage and carrots. The restaurant is a re-modeled gas station. Inside are photos, maps, and flags of El Salvador. The also sell bread and snacks native to their country. I'm so glad to have found this hidden place in Sherman. I'm happy to drive 45 minutes just to eat here.

We travel often from San Antonio, TX to Oklahoma and finally stumbled upon this gem on our way back home. I'm often disappointed in the experiences I have when trying other salvadorean restaurants in the Dallas area but this was not the case here. Everything was DELICIOUS and fresh! Yes, it took a little while to get our food but it was worth it. The young lady waiting the tables was very attentive despite there being a lunch crowd. The lady at the cashier was also nice and helpful. As we all know, most salvadorean places have a bad rap for providing slow service and subpar food (at least that's been my experience every single time) but I assure you this isn't the case here. The pastelitos were my favorite but everything was delicious! Highly recommend!!

We celebrated my friends birthday there. I loved the food and the atmosphere. There is also a mini grocery store inside. You can get everything from authentic Salvadorean food to, bread, candy, juaritos sodas. There was a bunch of different kinds of chips, every kind of snack you could ever imagine. They have agua frescas. There was pina agua frescas, cantaloupe, even a few more flavors to choose from. As far as the food, everything was very fresh. I could tell it was all homemade. The food was served with a smile and I would recommend anyone going to give it a try.

My husband and I absolutely adore this little spot. It is truly a hidden gem. Let me start by saying this loud and clear: this is authentic Salvadoran food, and no, it is not Mexican food. Please know the difference y’all. Every dish carries the heart and heritage of El Salvador, and you can taste the tradition in every bite.

The moment we walked in, we felt at home. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, yet full of character. It feels like you have been welcomed to someone’s table rather than just a restaurant. There is a vibrancy to the space and an authenticity that you cannot fake.

And the food? Incredible. From the pupusas to the sides, every flavor was rich, comforting, and unforgettable. This is the kind of food that does not just fill your stomach but wraps you in a memory. We left feeling nourished in both body and soul.

La Placita is the kind of place that reminds you why food matters. It is culture, it is family, it is beauty on a plate. If you want real Salvadoran food in Sherman, this is it. A...

I came to visit because the majority of the reviews were great and I love Salvadorian food!...I was disappointed with the food. (I ordered 4 different variety of Pupusas: cheese, beans & cheese, cheese & spinach, and chicharron, can you tell I LOVE cheese..🤭😝) The waitress that took my order was super friendly, but the waitress that delivered my food was sort of snooty and asked if I wanted cabbage. I replied that I did and she walked away to another table😳... to which she greeted with a smile and showed GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE to. Ummm, hello? I am a customer too😩...that's ok, maybe because I wasn't a regular is the reason why she was a bit aloof with me?🤔 sigh but the original waitress came by after couple of minutes and I asked for the cabbage. She apologized and brought it to me minutes later. I don't live in the Sherman,TX area, but I do pass by there on my way to Dallas. Maybe I expected more because of the great reviews, but was not very impressed with my...

Casual dining within a small grocery store. The absolute best food! I'm pretty sure I'm addicted at this point. Seriously, delicious food! Black bean dip, guacamole, so fresh. The chicken tamale has potato and green bean inside and is wrapped in a banana leaf and is so moist, tastes like chicken pot pie. My husband goes bonkers for the corn tamale, kind of like jiffy cornbread but way better, dip it in crema. They serve chips with a matinated cabbage slaw on the side with this amazing green and red sauce. The veggie papusa is so good, even better when you top it with that slaw and red sauce. Chicken quesadillas are shredded chicken, and it's LOADED full. So good! And I love to eat the fried plantains for desert dipped in the fresh creme. Perfect! Oh, and they have a coffee machine with different flavors, way better than the gas station types. My favorite is the Mokalita. It's coffee with a cinnamon and chocolate flare. Eyes rolled in the back of my head,...
