West 52 BBQ — Restaurant in Shorewood

Man Look ! I'm sold ! I'm from Louisiana so you know we are hard on the world about food and great taste as we are known for it, but man oh man!!! This place!!!! I came here in the area for work and of course I crave good food being away from home! A friend of mine referred the spot so I tried it. Let's start with the area and atmosphere! It's located in a great area for one, it's not hard to find (look for the big BBQ sign above the door, it's huge) and inside is very clean and comfortable to dine! Now , I'm a big foodie so I've tried a variety of things being that I'm a returning customer! My pick is always the Jerk Turkey burger now! 😁👀 It's a burger the size of Mt. Rushmore with ALL of the taste you can imagine!!! 😏🫨🫠🫣 I couldn't believe it the first time! It's like an 'All-American AllStar' burger! That's the feel and presentation, with a smooth Caribbean blend seasoning ! Perfected too! Yummy right ???!!! Check the pictures ! Now my other picks are the wings! Now let's talk! You know how some places serve chicken and it has that "wet feathered fresh bird taste"??? 👀 Not these !!! 🤣 These birds were loved and taken care of I can imagine! A very well tasted deep fried chicken!! I optioned to add lemon pepper over mine and I shouted Glory to God when I bit into them! I even asked the owner why aren't they on TV yet? This should absolutely be on the cooking network!!! Oh !!!! The pasta! Oh my God! The pasta!!!!! Ask about the pasta !! Please 🫶🏼👏🏼 I mean I taste the food Everytime before I leave and I throw my hands up and it's like my soul went to dancing with the Lord !!!!! I close my eyes after a bite because I can't believe it ! Its good for real! If I can give 10 stars I would! The people , they are great too! Always a warm welcome when I'm there and they make you feel like we've been knowing each other for years on! Even the customers 😂 I find myself awaiting my food talking and laughing with complete strangers because we both are anticipating our orders 😂 it's a pretty happy place ok? ! I mean it's good food coming up! Why not?! And it's great vibes, from the guy and gal at the counter to the owner himself coming up front to welcome you in! All Awesome! TL;DR: This is a smaller operation with high attention to customer satisfaction and their products. Troy is a stand-up guy and wants you to go home with something you'll love. Ask to try samples and take home your favorites!

Talk about value added service! I was so impressed with the personal attention to each customer, not just to me, but to ever customer I saw walk in, most of whom the owner greeted BY NAME. Not only that, but he knew what they had each had last time they were in. Troy even offered up samples of some of the things I had not tried before, just to make sure I knew what I was getting. After a short, frank discussion, he let me know that his philosophy was that everyone should know what they're getting before they buy it. He was more concerned with me getting something that wowed me more than he was with me ordering a ton of different items. He essentially said that the worst thing for him would be for someone to order something blindly and get home to eat it, only to realize that it wasn't to their tastes.

I will mention two things: make sure you ask about other things that might not have made it onto the menu (today, 5/1/24, they have hot links and corned beef available, but it's not on the menu board); and be prepared for certain items to be unavilable. It's a small place and every single piece of food is made with scruitiny and love. That means that there might not be as much of it to go around some days.

Specific item reviews: chicken wings are fried up hard and delicious. Corned beef was crazy tender and fall-apart. Juicy and flavorful. Collards were heart and somehow tasted big and beefy. I thought I had ribs before… I was confident that I have eaten ribs. Everything I’ve ever known about ribs was a lie. I just had a spiritual experience inside of an unsuspecting restaurant. I saw someone else say that these ribs were the best ribs they ever had in their life and I was like “yeah, ok, loser. You probably haven’t been to Texas blah blah blah. There’s no way that the best ribs in his life came from a restaurant in a strip mall in shorewood. How wrong I was… you know that one part of the rib that is kind of tough? The stringy portion at the top which is usually overdone and nothing special? It doesn’t exist in these ribs. The entire this was seasoned to perfection. The only thing that made this experience even better as the service from the young lady in front and the owner Tony. As a chef of 13 years, I can confidently say that I have not had food that tasted like the person poured their heart and soul into every dish. Made with love is over used but in this case it is not. He is a Marine vet pumping out some of the best ribs, brisket, chicken and even BURGERS you will ever have the pleasure of coming across. Tony will let you sample whatever your heart desires and if you’re not walking out with a plate afterwards you must be broke.
