Twin Hickory Tavern — Restaurant in Short Pump

My first time eating at this place was through DoorDash, the food was so good/fresh/ well put together!! I couldn’t wait to experience the actual restaurant, literally came 2 days later! Me & my mom sat at the bar, & was greeted by Nick. We asked for drink menus, he shared that there were no drink menus, only food menus & proceeded to give us 1 food menu to share. He brung us our drinks (he forgot our waters), & after that he never came back or even looked our way. Although he continued to serve everyone around us, he never came back to ask if we wanted food or anything else, it was almost like we were invisible to him! (remind you we’re black as can be :)). We sat there for a while & was then greeted by Mike who offered us food & continued to wait on us for the rest of the evening, while Nick continued to wait on the guest around us. Nick only came back to pick up our finished plates, & still never asked if we needed anything else or didn’t bring the check. Mike was the only one who was attentive/friendly/informative, whereas Nick was extremely dismissive & uninterested, I guess he was too busy taking shots behind the bar to give a crap. Moral of the story unfortunately, as good as the food was, the customer service was distasteful & I will not be spending any more of my money with this establishment. We are quickly seated even though they were busy on a Friday evening. Our server was excellent and gave us just the right amount of service. We ordered the honey garlic chicken wings and a half a pound of peel any shrimp. We also got the brussel sprouts as an appetizer. The wings were perfectly prepared with just them right amount of garlic and honey. The shrimp were cooked well and not overdone. They were also a good size. But the thing you have to try are the brussel sprouts. They are absolutely astounding. We almost ordered another batch of them. They are perfectly crispy and seasoned ed perfectly. The only downside to the place was the acoustics in the building made of difficult to hear each other. It gets pretty noisy in there. There are plenty of TVs showing sports, IE sweet 16 as well as golf. All in all a good experience and I would go there again if I was in the area. My husband and I have tried to support local restaurants since the pandemic, but some really make it hard. While I understand they have to be careful and keep things sanitized, you still need to have menus that that your patrons can hold in their hand, OTHER THAN A CELL PHONE!!! People are too glued to their devices as it is now and we don't go to a restaurant just look at our phones to see what we want to eat. When I asked if we could see a real menu, the hostess apologized and said they had run out. Mind you, there was a stack of paper menus right behind her (might have been for different meal). Either print up more (which kills a few more trees) or get real menus with plastic covers so they can be wiped down in between customers...unless you're too lazy. We won't be back.
