I am an avid enthusiast and connoisseur of Pho! I've eaten it for over 15 years now and I've had it at many different restaurants, as well as make it myself. I happened to be in Shrewsbury and I was craving pho so I Google searched restaurants near me and Pho Sure came up as "Shrewsbury's first and only authentic Vietnamese restaurant" and had great reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered the Pho with the Vietnamese meatballs and the Summer Spring Shrimp Rolls. I was extremely disappointed with this food and it was not edible. I tried contacting the restaurant many times, but the phone is always busy, or nobody picks up and I've sent 3 emails, but nobody has responded so the customer service is severely lacking, as well. I'm thinking that they got such good reviews because it's probably friends and family of the owners leaving the reviews because this was the most disgusting, inedible food that I've ever had!!! Firstly, the Pho broth smelled rotten, like sewer water or food soaked dishwater. The smell was nauseating. Then, I noticed all of these gray chunks in the broth and I had no idea what that was. I didn't see any meatballs or anything that resembled meatballs. I was looking for another container for the meatballs, but it turns out that these disgusting gray chunks were supposedly the meatballs. I wasn't even sure if it was meat and there were all these hard, cartilage balls all throughout it. Needless to say, I could not even stomach trying this at all - the broth smelled like sewer and the meat was gray! And it just smelled absolutely PUTRID and DISGUSTING!! I figured I'd just eat the Summer Spring Rolls - what could go wrong with these, but I was WRONG. Firstly the , spring roll itself was so dry and both rolls were ripped down the entire length so all of the inside filling was just spilling out - it was a MESS. Then, the noodles were also extremely dry to the point of chalk and crunchiness - I'm not sure if they were overcooked, not cooked enough or sat around on the counter for a week. Also, the shrimp smelled fishy and tasted gross. Again, I have tried to contact the restaurant multiple times to no avail and nobody has yet to respond to my concerns and multiple emails. This was the first and LAST time that I'd ever go here! ...
Read moreI've been eating Vietnamese in the Worcester area since the 80s when they started opening on Park Ave. I do not get out to Worcester super often, after moving away years ago, I had heard about Pho Sure from a friend and just hadn't been by.. with their grand reopening amd new location, I made the trek and I will go again!!
Open, brightly lit place, with bustling crowd, mix of dates, friends and plenty of families with kids included. Even busy, the staff were efficient friendly and attentive without being overbearing.,. Very aware and conscious of diet dietary restrictions and allergies bug plusses. On the (minor) minus side, they do suffer from excessive instruction/direction signage in the dining room, oft found in quick/noodle shops which sets an overly casual mood, not bad per se, but they would be well served to put signage and diagram in the vestibule directing take out versus a trail through the dining room. Hence nit pick to 4 stars for atmosphere. Still, a really fun place and absolutely not a place that puts on airs! Go!
Food was excellent, extremely well executed BUN, PHO, Goi Coun Chay, and Goi Rau Cu. I noted only one small lime wedge to add, but the strong lemongrass in broth kept brightness up and made it superfluous.
Special call out for cellophane noodle availability for Hu Tieu if asked.
Both the peanut sauce (Bun, Goi Coun), and the Goi Rau Cu dressing were a complex interplay of flavor that was bright and uplifting without relying on heat. These details make each plate its own, and special.
Note: They do not have Durian (could be a plus to many, but unfortunately for me as it is my go-to!).
I would say they focus on accessibility in their take, emphasizing crisp, acidity, floral, vegetal notes, with a mild sweetness, over the more pepper heavy, saltier broth of the west side of Wormtown.
They also do a brisk take out business, see "sign...
Read moreworst customer experience ever- they basically lied to our faces.
My wife usually orders the house salad with ginger dressing with tofu. Yesterday, after picking up her order, she found that the ginger dressing was a watery mess. We called back, and they wanted us to drive back pickup another dressing (he said he'll throw in an extra one to be nice). We told him that we live 15 minutes away and asked if they would deliver. He told me that their deliveries were through a third-party (the thought didn't occur to him to pay the third-party for that service).
So to come to solution he offers a free replacement salad the next day (today). We just called and place the order, and surprise, no one is none the wiser about this deal that the manager made. We told them to check with the manager. When the manager came on, he basically said that he didn't say anything like that...basically lying to our faces.
The only thing this place has is that it's the only decent vietnamese in the area. But I've never liked the customer service: when they first started, I was so irate at how they would not so subtly leave the check on your table, even if you didn't ask for it, even if your in the middle of a bite. Don't even get me started when we found very under-cooked chicken (still pinkish red and bloody) in our house fried rice.
They're rude and they cut corners and we'll never...
