My husband and I got married on Sunday and decided that we definitely did not want to cook anything the next day, as we’re preparing to leave for our honeymoon. So we decided on Willy’s Steakhouse for dinner on Monday evening to treat ourselves. It was very easy to make the reservation online. We parked in the lot behind the building, which was only a short walk from the door. We were sat within 2 minutes of checking in. The hostess and the bartender that we interacted with in that short frame of time before our table was ready were both very friendly. We were sat in a booth with a high back, which we found to be very comfortable and spacious. The tables were dressed with white linen and a small candle created a nice little romantic atmosphere. The service overall was fantastic. Sean was so personable and attentive. He told us up front that there was no sushi on Mondays. Enough cannot be said about him. He is an absolute rockstar. It was our first time at Willy’s, and he was so great at explaining the menu to us and providing suggestions. The food and portions were incredible. We ended up taking a lot home, which spared us from making lunch today! I had the strawberry blond martini and my husband chose a canned IPA. Both were very good. My husband started off with the Oysters Rockafellar, which Sean advised up front took about 20 minutes. I did not try them as I have a shellfish allergy, but my Caesar salad was very tasty, especially with the freshly cracked pepper! My husband loved his app, and found it very filling. The purée that held the oyster shell to the plate was also very good. For his entree, he chose the rack of lamb, and I got the steak tips au poivre. Both dishes were incredible, with large portions. We shared the roasted Brussels sprouts and potatoes au gratin as well. The sprouts were cooked perfectly! The potatoes were so creamy with a delicious crispy bread crumb on top. We opted to box our entrees and sides and decided to share a dynamite stick for dessert. It was to die for! Start to finish, we were there for just about 2 hours. The bill came in under $200 for drinks, apps, entrees, sides, and dessert for a nice dinner date. The only thing I will say that detracted from the experience is that we were seated next to somebody with a small child that cried the majority of the evening, which was wholly out of the control of the staff. When making the online reservation, it was clearly stated that Willy’s loves kids but is not a kid friendly restaurant. I was just surprised that someone would be bold/ignorant enough to bring a disruptive child into this kind of restaurant, especially where the tables are in such close proximity. The crying child kind of shattered the intimacy of the evening for me, but we otherwise thoroughly enjoyed the experience based on food and service, and we look forward to coming back— but definitely not on a Monday because my husband is looking forward to trying the...
Read moreFirst time visiting this particular restaurant, which is a 45-minute drive for us. We had heard wonderful things about the food and restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't experience that. We had a reservation for 8:15 and arrived 15 minutes early and was quickly shown to our table. After a 10 minute wait, our waiter Alan arrived and asked what type of water we would like. Bottle or tap. 10 minutes later, he returned and took our cocktail and appetize order. We settled on the Crab Cakes and Tuna Tataki. These came out fairly fast for being a Saturday evening with an almost full restaurant. This restaurant maybe has 20 tables and a small bar area is not very large. The Crab Cakes were ok, not very flavorful and on the thinner side. The Tuna Tataki was point on. Fresh as could be and very flavorful! We both ordered the 16oz Bonesless Ribey. They state that all of their meats are aged 28 days. At $49 a steak, I was not expecting what I received. We ordered Medium Rare and received Medium to Well. Their was no flavor and more like 10 to 12 oz steak. Our server was not attentive throughout our visit. I mentioned to him about the steaks being overcooked, and he stated he would advise the manager. He did ask if I wanted another steak and at this point I was already half way thru the steak and didn't want to wait another 20 to 30 minutes for it to arrive cold like the first one did. The manager never stopped by the table to speak with us or ask how our we were doing. He walked by many times. Yes, I could have said something to him, but that's his job to check on every table in the restaurant.
The entrees do not come with sides. You have to order them separately, so we settle on the loaded baked potato and truffle lobster mac and cheese. The baked potato is a baked potato, which was fairly large and under cooked. The truffle lobster mac and cheese was decent but could have been creamier. It had a decent amount of lobster, and you could taste the hint of truffle. This dish almost tasted like the truffle lobster mac and cheese that you used to be able to get at Smith & Wollensky.
Overall, with 2 apps, 3 cocktails, 2 ribeyes, 2 sides, and a piece of chocolate cake came to $236. They are definitely on the higher price side. If you enjoy sushi, I would recommend sitting at the bar, but don't waste your money on anything else. You will be very disappointed with the taste and service you receive at a table. Will not be returning...
Read moreHi Everyone, Tonight I was at Willey's with my wife to have dinner on her birthday. Thought it would be a perfect finish to an eventful day for her. We ordered boneless buffalo wings as appetizer along with Kentucky Mule for her and one shot of Glenmorangie with 2/3 ice cubes and a dash of club soda for me for drinks. As for entrees my wife ordered rack of lamb and I had the "deconstructed" beef Wellington. Instead of the pastry wrapping around the beef medallion, they place the crunchy pastry at the bottom and then place the beef on top of it which makes the pastry soggy and wet with all the juices from the beef leading to an uneatable tastelessness (bad deconstruction idea for $35 bucks a plate). Though my beef and my wifes lamb was cooked to perfection when we requested they be done medium well (most difficult to cook). In the mean time I ordered a couple of rounds of double Glenmorangie on few rocks with a dash of club soda. The waitress told me they can't do double so she gave me a shot and a half for each round, which was fine with me. When the check came I noticed that my 1st drink one shot (menu price $9.00) was $14.95 and the later 2 additional drinks were at $16.50 each. When in actuality my 1st drink should have been $9.00 and consequent drinks at $13.50 - PROVIDED THEY GAVE ME ONE AND A HALF TIMES WHICH I DOUBT 'coz they dont have such a measuring cup (waitress showed me their available measuring cups and none can measure one and a half times and moreover I can clearly see the level on my glass). But the prices don't match up with the menu. Any restaurant makes a profit of 70% and above on drinks and then on top of that they are adding and additional 20% of unexplainable charge and when pointed out explains with lame excuses. People should be aware when visiting these kind of expensive restaurants that sometimes the servers don't get the tips you leave them, helping the owner make extra bucks along with extra hyped charge on your drinks and food check on an already overpriced menu. Think twice where you are going and what kinda food you will enjoy there knowing you will end up paying much more than you ordered or enjoyed. There are plenty of upscale restaurants in and around Shrewsbury where you will...
