I hate to rate this place a 3 because past experiences here have been a 4 or 5. While those times the service was outstanding (my family even sat in the "lucky" booth once and got free desserts from Papa!), today was not the case. We are an extremely easy-going family but this last visit was enough to warrant a review. To begin, after being seated it took probably 10 minutes to get our drink orders. Meanwhile, the waitress told us several times how very busy she was (she had 3 tables). When we were ready to order food, my husband asked what the specials were. She said that she didn't know so she went to glance at the “Specials” sign. She came back and told us there were no specials. The food was pretty good as usual (notice I didn’t say service, as we hardly saw our waitress), but after our meal we decided to order milkshakes. While ordering. our waitress continued complaining about how busy she was (now down to just 2 tables). She told us that milkshakes involve her stopping everything else and made us feel like we had become a hassle. We told her if she didn’t want to make them that it wasn’t a big deal. She said that she wasn't saying she wouldn't, just that it was a pain. I said I would get a slice of Oreo pie, to be easier for her, and my daughter would take a kids milkshake. She comes back with my daughters shake and tells me there is no Oreo pie. I ask if it’s not too much trouble I would also have a shake then. About 15 minutes later she comes back with my shake insincerely apologizing because as she said she “forgot about me.” The shake that she brought was not at all what I ordered. She jokingly admitted to forgetting what I ordered and just adding a little bit of everything. The shake was gross. Anyways, at this point we decided to just get our drinks to go because we were pretty upset. My husband went to go get the to-go cups because otherwise we would have been there an additional 10 minutes waiting on them. He then went to the counter to pay the bill and waited for a good 5 minutes so all the waitresses standing around and joking with the cooks could finish their conversation first. As we walked out, we read the huge sign in the doorway stating the special of the day, which apparently really did exist. The sign was actually facing towards the door, ensuring that she didn’t even look at it, as she never left my field of view when going to glance at the sign. Definitely not...
Read moreFor 15 years off and on, I've been stopping at Papa's Diner for their otherwise decent burgers. Normally, they wait within 5-10 minutes and the food is served within 30 minutes. Also, there is an Elvis impersonator singing outside in the patio. I stop by for both food and entertainment when in Sierra Vista or driving through. However, this time the food was absolutely terrible. Also, I haven't seen the Elvis impersonator at location for quite some time now. First off, we had to wait 52 minutes before the order was served (it wasn't busy) and when it arrived (we had each ordered Route 66 burgers with cheese), my burger was so badly burnt on both sides that the burn was 1/8" thick on each side. It was literally crispy carbon black on both sides that you can dry scrape with a knife. What remained of the burger center was dry as a bone and I had ordered it medium. My son's burger was somewhat burnt, but it wasn't crispy like mine. However, his came without any condiments, so it was in essence a cheeseburger. Because we hadn't had breakfast and it was almost 1PM, we were both starved and ate what was served... My burger was actually crunchy on the exterior from the burn. I would have requested a fresh burger be prepared, and condiments for my son's burger be brought but I didn't want to wait another hour to be served. At checkout I made the complaint and provided a piece of the burnt 1/8" thick outer layer for evidence. The cashier apologized and stated they had two new cooks and one was a former dishwasher. I would have expected at least a discount for the lack of service and poor food, but received none. Frankly, what a dishwasher and a new cook are serving up is not acceptable as food in my opinion. I will not be going back for...
Read moreI would like to warn others of the rude service you may encounter at Papa’s 50’s Diner. My husband and I stopped in this morning for a little breakfast. We were seated right away and when the waitress asked if we would like anything to drink my husband asked the price of a cup of coffee, then declined to have any, and said that $3.50 was too much. The waitress was clearly upset, but I ordered coffee for myself. She did bring a refill after we ordered, but did not refill my cup after bringing the food. I waited a few minutes, then I got up with my cup to ask for a refill, as she was behind the counter not busy with customers at the moment. She filled my cup and quite pointedly asked if I was sharing my coffee. I said no, my husband had tasted the coffee and didn’t like it. She then started on a tirade about sharing coffee. I was quite taken aback at her insinuation and her tone of voice. She was clearly upset and speaking to me in a loud voice and I told her should not be snippy with customers. As I returned to my seat I said we would not come here again. She made more remarks remarks as she passed our table but we said nothing. After we finished our meal and as we were paying the bill, right there at the register, she again made remarks on the price of coffee, and I told her it wasn’t so much the price of a cup of coffee but that she accused me of sharing and she should learn to be a better waitress. She nearly shouted that she "had been a waitress in this family business for 35 years", and to not come back because we would not be welcome. I assured her we would not come back and we are very happy to spend our dining...
