I made a reservation earlier this week for myself and five friends for 7:30pm on Saturday evening. We arrived a few minutes early. It would have been nice if they had music playing on the front patio for guests waiting to be seated. We waited about 20 minutes past our reservation time for our table.
When we finally were seated they put 6 of us at at a small table that is meant for 4 and just threw chairs on each end. There was another table they had just cleared next to us but they utilized that table to sit another party. A couple tables over, they had 2 tables pushed together for another party of 6. It's a new business, so we let that go.
My friends ordered beer and they didn't have tea so I settled for water. Everyone's drinks came out in a timely manner. We asked the waitress if we could still order food since the kitchen closes at 830. She said yes and just a heads up- it's a long wait. We asked about how long and she said about 30mins for sandwiches and fries and closer to an hour for entrees. We decided to sip on our drinks and chat while we wait on some sandwiches and fries- since we were hungry. It's a new business, so we didn't mind waiting. We understand they're still figuring it out and we were looking forward to what we were sure would be a delicious meal well worth the wait.
Our food arrived a few mins after 9pm. All of us upgraded our chips to french fries. Everyone's fries except mine came out so hard you couldn’t even bite them. None of them ate their fries. My friend asked for a fresh order and was told the kitchen closed at 8:30 and they didn’t have any more fries. They did not offer chips or anything as an alternative. One of our friends only ordered fries and hers were also not edible so I shared mine with her. My friend asked for ranch and was told they were out. I asked for ketchup and was told there was none. My burger was charred on the outside, which I don't mind, but the inside had a mixture of raw pieces and medium/medium well. I was about halfway through when I got a big raw chunk and lost my appetite. My friends split a chicken sandwich and the chicken looked more like a chicken nugget than a chicken sandwich patty. It was like 2 small bites worth.
We asked to speak to the manager. When he came by he wasn't very personable. He listened to my friend's very polite complaints about the fries and size of their chicken. He did not apologize but instead said he guesses he could give us all a discount on the fries. I made sure to mention to him that our waitress, Lisa, was phenomenal and that our complaints were in no way a reflection of her service to which he responded "how much did she pay you to say that?" I found that to be very unprofessional. It did not come off as friendly joking banter either as the manager wasn't being kind, playful, or friendly with us. In fact, he didn't seem to care at all.
The fries were a $2 upcharge and I received a $3 discount on my meal. My friends chicken sandwich meal and my other friends order of fries should have been completely comped. The manager had the ability to make things right with good customer service and either offering a replacement or comping their bill.
Unfortunately, the whole experience was a disappointment with the exception of a nice space, good company, our wonderful server Lisa, and Dan. Honestly, this business should strongly considering making Dan the manager. He was kind, professional, checked on us a couple times throughout the evening, and he also apologized for the bad experience and said he hoped to see us back (which is much more than the manager did.)
I understand this is a new business still working out kinks but that's not an excuse for poor management. Consider putting a more experienced manager in place who cares about the customer's experience & who works the floor to check on customers & consider simplifying the menu. I do not plan to return unless things significantly improve.
I hope your business takes this feedback and makes...
Read moreAtmosphere, building and beer are great! That’s where my good experience ends and the negative begins. We had a reservation at 7:30. We arrived about 5 minutes early and had to wait about 20 minutes extra for our reserved table. Then all 6 of us were squeezed around this table that is typically for 4. They squeezed 2 chairs on either end. All of the chairs were wobbly and the table too. 3 of us were on ground fixing the feet on the table and chairs. We order drinks and they came in a timely manor. We order food and the server (Lisa) told us the kitchen is backed up and it would be a bit of a wait. Our party agreed that we would wait because we were hungry and knew the kitchen is working out kinks. We were happy to sip on some drinks and wait for our meals. The meals finally came out at 9:05pm. We all upgraded our house chips to french fries and they came out so hard you couldn’t even bite them. None of us ate our fries. I asked for a fresh order and was told the kitchen closed at 8:30 and they didn’t have any more fries. My chicken sandwich came out with a piece of chicken so so tiny that it didn’t even cover 1/3 of the bun. I have worked in opening/training new restaurants in the past, so I really try to be understanding that stuff happens. But the manager/owner really sealed the deal. When we asked to speak to him about some of our concerns and to offer some feedback, he was not receptive but instead said, I will discount your meal. And that was it. No “sorry about that, can I get you something different to eat? Or we are really sorry, please come back to give us a try again and we will make it better.”He did not seem to care at all and was not friendly. The only friendly staff that we encountered was Dan the host! Lisa our server was also great with communication and checking in on us. Not sure I would come back any time soon. The menu was limited and they are trying to make it too upscale with out the ability to execute it. Creat a simpler menu and stick to focusing...
Read moreWe were in town for the Arizona 8-10 Little League championship and most of the families wanted to get together after a game. When someone suggested Tombstone Brewing West End, I wondered about the wisdom of taking a bunch of kids there based on brewery in the name. But it was the best place we could have ever found!
We arrived without reservations and with around 40 people, including 20+ kids. When we asked if they could accommodate our group, they suggested giving us the patio area, which also has a grassy area and is fenced. We had the space to ourselves. It was perfect for a group. The boys ran around and had a ball. They were contained and we're able to be kids without bothering others guest. The parents were able to visit without trying to keep the kids quiet.
Adam was our server and was amazing with all the confusion and multiple families ordering. The food was fantastic. I had the Tombstone burger and it was delicious. I had a bite of my grandson's mac and cheese and it was to die for. Others in our party had the grilled cheese and the chicken tenders and enjoyed them. We ordered the fries, but the homemade chips looked. I think if order them if I went back.
Everyone it group appreciated the way the staff at Tombstone welcomed and cared for our group. I highly recommend Tombstone Brewing West End. They did an amazing job of serving a large group at the last minute with the best possible option. The food was delivered in a reasonable time considering the group. Every staff member was very responsive to our needs, friendly, and kind. I can't think of a better situation we could have had tonight.
Thanks so much, Tombstone, for making our team gathering such a...
