My mouth has seen the future of pizza and it is here at Slice House by Tony Gemignani. We live in the Santa Clarita Valley which is a NYC-style pizza wasteland...We heard that one of these slice houses was opening up in our valley and we just couldn't wait to try it so we headed out to Simi to give this location a try.
We couldn't have been happier about what the future holds for us.
All I really need out of pizza, as a baseline as a good, authentic slice of NY-style cheese pizza. Lots of places offer pizza-shaped food which has the general look and flavors one would expect...but few do an actual perfect NYC-style slice...super thin and crispy with the right amount of sauce and cheese. that's exactly what we got here.
We also really enjoyed the Sweet Gino Grandma slice we got...they have several styles of pizza and you can get any pizza you want on any of those styles (NY, Grandma, Detroit, Sicilian...check their website for photos and descriptions about what differentiates these styles.) So there are plenty of options for you if you're ordering a whole pie...though if you want to sample slices you're limited to what's in the display case...not a problem for most folks, but if you're a vegetarian and really want to try a Detroit slice, but the available Detroit slice happens to not be vegetarian, you're out of luck unless you order a whole Detroit pie.) I don't see this as too much of a problem when they open up in our valley as I envision a long future of ordering entire pies in all their styles so I become a Tony Gemignani-ologist, expert in all the styles they offer...though it would be nice if there was a vegetarian slice option in all their styles in case I happen to be walking by and there's a pizza slice emergency.)
They also have pasta, a couple of vegetarian sides, wine and beer, and Aperol if you want a fun Italian experience. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table.
Slice House will be a true pizza game-changer in the Santa Clarita Valley when it shows up here. We're so glad we got to experience it at this Simi...
Read moreI've eaten here before, and at the Thousand Oaks location, so when I drove two cities out to eat here this Sunday, Jan 5th, I expected some bomb pizza. Instead, after driving 35 minutes to get there, then waiting 20 for our pizza, the manager brought us something I'd never seen before. I asked why the pizza looked "off" and turns out, she gave us a Vegan Pepperoni Pizza. She then tried to say that this was someone else's order, but "offered" it to us instead??? I said, "No, we'll wait for what we ordered, a regular New York Style Pizza. So then, 10 magical minutes later, she brings us our pizza, which is under cooked and doughy as hell. I eat New York style pizza all the time, I'm a pizza connoisseur, and this was so gooey and doughy you couldn't even fold it correctly without everything spilling off of it. Plus, it just tasted terrible, like rubber with partially melted cheese. I don't understand why she rushed our second pizza, they're the one's who messed up the first one. I told her we were willing to "WAIT" which means they shouldn't have rushed that second pizza, they should have made sure it was perfect. Instead, you gave us shit that was no way in Hell worth $45. You also lied to us, trying to say you simply "brought us the wrong order," which made absolutely no sense, if that order was for someone else, then you shouldn't have even offered it to us, you should have simply thrown in the correct pizza, and told us, "Sorry, we messed up, it's going to be a little longer." Again, my friend and were chilling on the patio, no rush or hurry at all, we were just enjoying the day. If you try to act like your customer's are stupid, you'll get reviews like this more often. I encourage the owners of this relatively new business to have a chat with their store managers about the dangers of serving under...
Read moreVery disappointed with the service in this place. I went there for my first time and wanted pizza by the slice. I saw they had a bunch of options and noticed the slice I wanted had 3 clumps of ricotta on there. I kindly asked her for (2) slices (mind you, it’s $7.00 a slice…) and she told me she couldn’t “modify” any pizza behind the glass. I asked her why and she said she just couldn’t and I could do it myself. I told her that if she cooks it that it will melt and I’ll be unable too. She wouldn’t budge. It was such a simple request especially given the fact I was about to drop $70.00 on pizza for Mother’s Day. It really upset me, I even told her she could hand it to me before cooking it and I’d do it myself and she couldn’t do that either.
I am a paying customer asking for a easy request since I cannot each ricotta or other cheeses due to allergy issues. The fact they couldn’t do this was baffling and turned me off to point that I won’t ever come back or recommend this place to anyone. East Coast Pizza and other pizza by the slice places have always helped me out with simple...
