My wife an I decided to have lunch here on a Saturday. Once we were seated, we waited way to long for someone to come take our order. It was at the point that I was considering leaving when the waiter showed up.
We both ordered a "Lucy" burger with waffle fries. When asked how we wanted those prepared, we replied with the our normal "Lettuce, Onion, Tomato, and Pickles". Everything seemed fine. The food was delivered to our table in a reasonable amount of time.
The burgers were a little small but not bad. They had a good taste but were a little on the salty side. The waffle fries were lukewarm and tasted stale.
We took about 20 minutes to eat and then waited an additional 20 minutes for the waiter to bring our check. From the time we had ordered our food till I got up, went to the bar, intending to get our check more than an hour had past. During that time our waiter never came to the table to check on us or offer to refill our drinks.
Once at the bar, our waiter approached and asked how he could help me. I politely asked for our check and he asked me who I was and where I was sitting. I explained where we were sitting and pointed out that he was our waiter. He did not remember us. That explains why he never returned to our table. Its so nice to go out to what I thought would be a nice lunch just to have our waiter forget we existed.
A few minutes later, our waiter returned to our table with our check. Remember us ordering Lettuce, Tomato, and ect on our burgers? Seems the menu price only includes bread, meat, and cheese. We were charged $0.75 extra for each topping. $0.75 for a slice of tomato. $0.75 for two pickles, you get the idea. Not that big of a deal in the grand scheme, however, it would have been nice if the waiter mentioned the up-charge at the time of ordering instead of getting a surprise on the bill. The waiter did apologize for the extended wait.
Perhaps they were short staffed, perhaps our waiter was having a bad day, who knows? I've had worse food and service in this town. However, I've most certainly had much better in this town. With the crazy inflation and many people having to tighten up their budgets, this is not the kind of experience that endures a restaurant. It is definitely not the experience I want to spend my hard earned money on.
Update Someone claiming to be the owner replied to this review asking me to contact them and give them the chance to change my review. I promptly contacted them via the requested website. It’s been 4 days since I reached out and nothing but crickets. No one has responded.
Sadly, I’ve been down this road before. Some establishments will respond to poor reviews with promises to make things better so the general public will read their response and think “it’s probably better now, management is actively correcting the problem.” When in fact nothing has changed.
I had planned on giving Crooked Pint Ale House another chance. That will no longer happen. If management doesn’t care enough to respond when they requested my input, they obviously don’t care about me as a customer or care about the horrible experience they provided. It’s a real shame, this restaurant has...
Read moreTo be honest it may seem a little unfair to rate this restaurant today during Easter brunch but it's got to be brought to someone's attention how incompetently this was set up.
One, we didn't have a server take a drink order for a minimum of thirty minutes. At that point there's no reason to sit there so we go to the buffet, where we wait in line for approximately twenty minutes to get to the actual buffet. There aren't any plates, wait another few minutes for plates.
The bowl where the salad dressing was kept was completely unhygienic, nothing keeping people from dropping the spoon down into the dressing bowl, people fishing out the spoon with other utensils not meant to go into the bowl.
The different items available on the buffet were either completely gone or completely unidentifiable, the things that were left over were clearly not the options people wanted, but nothing was there to tell you what it was, some kind of hash? An egg bake? Who knows. Notable items like mashed potatoes, sliders, and hash browns were never up there for the 45 minutes I spent there. It just wasn't appropriate to have so many things missing, and no way for the staff to conveniently restock anything without having to literally run into customers, obviously by accident, but still.
The prime rib situation was hilarious but a nightmare at the same time. Over a span of thirty minutes the meat man cutting the prime rib was told by whoever the chef was it would just be five more minutes until more prime rib was ready. You could tell the young man was at the mercy of whoever was back in the kitchen actually preparing the prime rib, he handled it extremely well. Until at one point he left to go check himself. When he came back he explained the prime rib had been purchased as a frozen prime rib, was never thawed appropriately, and since they had cooked it they had been struggling to get it up to temperature. Therefore it either wasn't coming or we had to wait another 20 minutes for prime rib.
Just such a bummer, I don't blame the wait staff, I blame management for setting these people up for failure. The one manager I saw was running around without actually doing anything, couldn't have been bothered to bring out more plates, help take drink orders, or help bring new food to the buffet, all while smiling and pretending that everything was great/simultaneously on fire at the same time.
Just to be clear, I've always enjoyed this restaurant, and to be fair I should've have given it at least a four star rating at some point but I don't live in Sioux falls anymore.
For the staff working today, if you've ever questioned whether or not management has your back, today should be a huge sign for you.
To management, how dare you. You guys only had to sit down for ten minutes to realize you couldn't fees the amount of people you had planned to come in. Either a logistical nightmare occured or there was a communication error but you should really take the blame for this.
Weirdly enough I look forward to coming back next year and sitting at the bar to witness this unfold again, for better or worse, but at the least for the sake of...
Read moreThe best thing about this place was happy hour was from 3-6 and 9-closing! Build your own flight $10! Came to Sioux Falls Holiday inn (8wks old) for pure leisure. Was happily suprised to see CP Ale House was attatched!! A great list of spirits! My sister ordered the make your own flight for 10 bucks! That was awesome, the waitress was knowledgeable about the drink menu. The menu kinda reminded me of The District's. We ordered the nachos. But it seemed to have maybe 10 to 12 chips. But the sour cream and guacamole was free atleast. Wouldn't recommend the nachos. My kids ordered the burgers off the kids menu. Fries were salty. The burgers were dry. But well done. For breakfast the next day, i had french toast and it was texas toast size 3 breads. No complaints. My sister had the hash. It was beautiful. The kids had the all american. The eggs are fake. It was good. I rate it 3.5 stars overall. The establishment was beautiful. I loved the bar stools. They are extra big and very nice to sit on. Even the chairs on the restaurant were extra big and very comfortable. The location was super. We didnt have to drive or order lyft to take us out to a bar. No complaints for the hosts. The waitress last night was nice she brought crayons and extra papers for the kids to color. Like 3 sheets each. Even found a boy sheet for my nephew to color haha. The only thing i can think of about last night was we were never asked if we were okay. Or asked for a refill. Like ever. At all. We moved to the bar while my dad took kids to the room. And around closing the bartender kind of started crashing and cleaning stuff exactly infront of us. Made us feel rushed. He looked pissed off. Kind of think "dont people leave, then staff cleans?" To myself. Also he said "im sorry it was my fault i charged you wrong. " And we had to pay an extra dollar for everything because "only on satudays and sundays the happy hour switches on us" he said. But to me that was kind of rude? He could have said to his boss.. "I accidentally told them the wrong price" or something but we did pay even though it was his fault. The best thing about this place was happy hour was from 3-6 and 9-closing! We love happy hour in my family! For my morning experience, we werent offered crayons or papers, and again, no refills? Never got asked for a refill. Thats just weird to me? Both experiences werent asked for a refill. Oh yeah last night my friend joined us. He wasnt asked for a refill either, and never brought us a check, so when he left he just gave me his portion of the money haha.. I think it was odd because the place wasnt packed or nothing. It seems like a nice addition for this side of...
