My wife and I came from north central Iowa to Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Saturday, June 24, 2023 to see the great and legendary country band Alabama. Our driving distance was 3 1/2 hours. The band was performing at the Denny Sanford Premier Center for the South Dakota Cattlemen's Foundation. We were looking forward to staying at a nice hotel, the Sheraton Sioux Falls & Convention Center. It would work great for us as it was attached to the Denny Sanford Premier Center and we could park our vehicle and have no worries for the rest of the evening. Oh how our plans changed at arrival at 6:15 p.m. on June 24, 2023. When we entered the hotel to check into our room that had a reservation made on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, along with a confirmation number that was emailed to us from the hotel, we were told they were overbooked and did not have a room for us. As the rude person who was supposed to check us in left us standing alone for a long period of time we felt we were being stared at and watched. He came back to us and stated in a rude way, "We are working on it'". I stated in a tasteful but stern manner I would like to talk to the manager of the hotel. Again he left us for a long period of time and came back and was very rude and again stated, "we are working on it". As I became more displeased another employee of the hotel came and said, "we are sorry for the inconvenience and agreed we had the right to be displeased". He said "we usually don't have this problem and we are looking for accommodations out of town for you and to be patient." I stated he was not being honest with me and I know hotels often overbook and there is absolutely no excuse for them to allow a room that is already reserved to be taken. The practice is unacceptable when it comes to proper etiquette and in treatment of guests. It is both disrespectful and very rude. I also stated that when we reserved our room on March 8, 2023, we were informed that if we were to cancel our reservation we needed to do so by June 22, 2023 to obtain a full refund. This practice is very understandable on our part and we firmly believe that it is only right and proper as guests for a hotel to charge a guest for a last minute cancellation. We fully accept those terms and respect them. My question is why isn't the hotel accountable for their default in their obligation to provide a room for us? What recourse do we have? The two gentlemen avoided answering us and were evading the issue at hand. We finally just said, "We give up, forget it and we will drive home". Neither employee acted like they cared and were not concerned at all about our well-being. When we walked away my wife and I needed to use a restroom in the hotel lobby as we had just had a lengthy trip. As my wife entered the ladies room there was an upset woman curling her hair at the restroom mirror. She had just driven 6 hours to see the band and her reserved room was also not available. She had planned on having a room to get ready for the concert. She told my wife that she couldn't find a hotel room within a 100 mile radius of Sioux Falls. Needless to say she was very upset and distraught. Is this the way guests at Sheraton hotels want to be treated? Is this way Sheraton hotels want their guests to be treated? Is this the kind of thing that happens at Sheraton hotels on a regular occurrence? Does anyone at the Sheraton hotels really care? The Sheraton Sioux Falls & Convention Center radiated that attitude. My wife and I left Sioux Falls at 11:30 p.m. We arrived home at 3:00 a.m. The principle of this issue is totally unacceptable. The boys from Alabama did not disappoint. We would do it all over again without hesitation. As far as Sheraton hotels go, don't ever plan on us or any of our family ever accommodating one again. We are law abiding, outstanding citizens of our community, state and country. We serve and belong to organizations that I know use the Sheraton hotel line to have business meetings. I will make sure I share our experience with everyone I know and am affiliated with.

Read more!!!!!I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!!!! We had a room booked for three nights, however; we only stayed two of those three nights! The room had a horrible odor from the minute we walked in! Not sure exactly what it was, but the front desk had no answer either! For the cost of the room, $129 + 3 different taxes per night, you would think they could spend a little money on upgrades to the room. We had the thermostat as low as it would go, and the fan on high, and we were never able to get the room cooled down enough to be comfortable, and this was on 2-18-2016 and 2-19-2016 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota!! The rooms are very small, and rather outdated, other than the counter in the bathroom and the flat screen television. They still charge to use the telephone! There is NO microwave, and also NO small fridge. The internet is HORRIBLE, when it did work, it was like dial up speed. The toilet stopped up so I called the front desk and rather than have someone come unstop it, they handed my son the plunger and told him to do it!!! The beds are HORRIBLE!!!!! They are very, very small beds, both length and width, as well as being the most uncomfortable beds anyone in our family has ever slept in, the sheets sound like you are crumpling paper, they are stiff and noisy! The pool is tiny, and the hot tub creates a foam on top that prevents you from even being able to sit all the way down in it, again, the front desk has no idea why. The noise is horrible coming from the bar/eating area, even on the third floor. The hallways are noisy! I know our group had over 167 families there at the time, and it was LOUD! About the only thing I can say was even remotely good is that a few of the front desk people had really amazing personalities and attitudes, yet others just did not even care about anything at all. It shows that they have spent a fortune on the bar area and eating places! They even have a small waterfall and workout room. Apparently that is where the money goes, rather than on room upgrades. According to all in my family, the very best part of being there, other than leaving, was the elevators, they are glass, look out over the bar and eating areas, and they are fast! Had it not been mandatory for my family to stay there due to a school function, we would have left right after walking into the room!!! I only give this 2 stars because of the few things I could say...
Read moreI've stayed at several Sheraton's before and this one was by far the worst (Sioux Falls, SD). A friend had booked our stay as a weekend getaway for my husband and I to attend a marriage conference at the adjacent conference center. Upon arrival they informed us that there were no king size rooms available for us, even though our reservation had been made over a month in advance. Instead they put us in a double queen in the "executive wing". Although the lobby and main building have been beautifully and impressively remodeled, this wing, attached by a corridor to the rest of the hotel, had not. Our room was on the top (4th) floor where the hallway carpet was in terrible shape. We're talking beyond just stretched and wrinkled, but HUGE wrinkles and some rips in the hall carpet. The room was nicely furnished and overall decent. However, the beds were super uncomfortable and hard. The worst nights sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The second night we actually slept on top of the comforter and blanket from the one queen bed for a little cushion and used the comforter from the second queen bed as a cover.
The amenities of the hotel were not impressive. They don't have free wifi in the rooms, continental breakfast must be paid for, and their were only soda machines, but no vending. It honestly felt like everywhere you turned they were just out to make a buck off you, and there was little or no care for creating a wonderful experience by providing even the little things for their guests. We also were charged at check out for the water bottles in our rooms. Now I get if there is a mini fridge stocked with sodas and snacks that you could be charged, but for water bottles...really? I always try to check before taking anything to be sure it doesn't have a charge associated with it and from everything I could tell the water was free.
Since a friend was treating us for this weekend, the charge for the room was supposed to go on her credit card, but we ended up getting charged with the card we gave for any "damages". When my husband tried to call to sort our the mixed up card and the extra charge (which we found out was the water) the phone number given on the bill and the website said it was disconnected. He tried a few days later and got through. Weird.
Overall summary, not recommending this hotel to others or planning on ever staying there again. Expected more...
