Been a Fryn' pan customer for years. I used to love the salad bar as my go to. It has changed. Also, service has changed.
On the salad bar, sometimes the salads are so terrible now that they are not worth eating. We have had (more than a few times) over the past year potato salad with celery sticks half the size of my finger thrown in and taste of plain cardboard-just potatoes, mayonnaise, and celery logs. The coleslaw was always creamy and fresh. Now it frequently is sour or bitter. It looks and tastes like it has sauer kraut mixed in. It's like the very old salad from the last couple weeks just keeps getting added in. The soups have been off and on over the past year to a terrible degree. The salads served with meals in the early daytime (breakfast) have lettuce that has gotten too cold or frozen and is see through or rotted/black.
Service can be great or not. Orders are accurate or not. When I stepped up to the podium area the other eveing, I asked a server for a gluten free menu. She said, "Yeah, sure", seated me at a filthy table, set down the regular menu and walked away. She didn't come back for my drink order so I went to the counter and said, "Hi could I get that gluten free menu?" She proceeded to tell me that you have to ask for that, blah, blah, blah. I asked her what she thought she was saying "Yeah, sure" to as I thought there might be a misunderstanding. She said that conversation never happened. Just wow. The next visit I ordered from the gluten free menu, per usual, and the waitress brought croutons with the salad. They don't have gluten free croutons there. Also, the fresh fruit should be stricken from the menu. It was frozen in the first place, but some of it was good. They continue to have, for more than a year, only canned peaches as fruit.
Yes, I am still giving four stars as I do think there are some servers that still give good or great service. And some of the food is still...
Read moreWe went here last night for my grandfather's 90th birthday. We dine at all 3 Fryn Pan's here in Sioux Falls frequently and I am a VIP member. I almost always get the grilled salmon dinner with salad bar. My grandfather got a patty melt with salad bar because they had ham and bean soup as we arrived, which is his favorite. When we got up to the salad bar, no ham and bean soup. This was at 7:15 pm. Finally found a waitress to ask about it and were told oh, well if it is about 9:00pm. They don't put any more out. Fine. Finally got our dinners, 5 diners, at 8:00 pm. My grandmother and my fries were burned and cold, I could barely cut her chicken strips with a knife, and my salmon, although not badly cooked, had no color other than the burned on "grill leftovers" sticking to the middle part. By the time I could flag down a Manager, everyone at the table had finished eating. The manager told me my salmon was fine after he took my plate and tore it apart with my fork. He then handed it back to me and basically told me to eat it or order something else. I told him I wanted this meal cooked correctly. He said it was correct and handed it back to me. Then another waitress arrived with new fries that were also overcooked and was completely rude about it. I had to eat this poor excuse for a meal as I had no other choice, my blood sugar was too low to argue at this point, 9:15pm. Our waitress gave us a motel discount on the bill but I am so offended, I will never go back here. The west 12th street location is soooo much better. I don't know what happened to those people, but I will pray they have better days today, for them and...
Read moreMy friend and I walked in and were seated promptly, no issues there. Pretty much everything after that is what made it go downhill. I asked for a milkshake to which I was immediately told "no, the machine is dirty, it was just busy". Which I also work retail, but never tell my guest no by any means unless its out of my control, nor get a little angry with my tone. We got the grand combo fairly fast and this was actually quite hot and delicious! It's when 20 more minutes passed and our entries were brought out, with my drink virtually gone, nothing was asked of a refill. We both ate our food. I got one of my favorites, the Hot Turkey Sandwich. The Mashed Potatoes were cold and stuck together and rubbery. Most of the Turkey Sandwich was warm, not hot. But the last half of it felt Ice Cold. Finally after the food was gone, I was finally brought a refill. After about another 20 to 30 minutes we were brought our bills and was mentioned that she was "sorry, she forgot about us and couldn't even remember if she brought the refill". Finally, on our way out, after the gentleman infront paid, I approached the counter and was told, "you're gonna have to wait, I have to run this food" in a not very pleasant tone. I waited understandably, because I didn't want the other guest to have a similar experience to me. After waiting about another 5 minutes I was finally able to check out. Not pleased this kind of...
