China Garden — Restaurant in Smithville

Still searching for a good Chinese food place. :(

I ordered Vegetable Lo Mein, General Tsos Chicken, Pepper Beef and Onion, Egg Rolls, and Fried dumplings. The Egg rolls and fried dumplings were the best thing I got. Still relatively crispy after my 30 min drive home and the flavor was as expected. Veg and meat in a fried dough. What's not to enjoy there. Everything else was just .... bland. The Brown sauce for the beef dish had no real flavor, the general Tsos had gotten soggy by the time I got home. Even if it had still been crispy the flavor was just non existent. Same with the Lo mein. No definable flavor. I had to doctor up everything with Chinese 5 spice, Sichuan peppercorns, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, chili crisp, and gochujang, etc to make it have flavor. I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to take me out to eat and she didn't mind at all. I had some beef chow mein and chicken noodle soup with an egg roll and rice they added for free. We didn't eat inside because there was nowhere to sit, there were few tables and even fewer chairs. The building looked more like a house than a restaurant, there was dust on some things in the store and the floor looked like it needed to be swept. I didn't pay but I overheard the price for our order to be around $20, but that's with the addition of what my girlfriend got. I like this place. It is close to home and they have a variety of food. The staff is very nice and the place has a clean, friendly environment. However, the food is not hot. It is bearly warm. Cold food is not good. Went there again saturday to eat. They werent replacing food as it went empty. No clab legs, no mussels and the few shrimp they had was cold and dried up. No noodles and chicken was barely room temp. Hot food would give this place 5 stars and more...
