Well, I may be a bit more picky about barbecue than some, since we live in Kansas City. And I'm glad that Smithville has this option now, but it was lacking in a few areas. My husband and I ordered the fried pickles appetizer, and we shared a 2-meat dinner, with our choices being brisket & pulled pork. First of all, they only serve beer. No wine. I was not happy about that, as I am not a beer drinker. Secondly, I do not like to eat with paper plates and plastic forks. Thirdly, I was not a fan of the very weird yellow coleslaw, nor the beans, nor the "bold" sauce. Sorry, they had a strange flavor. I did like the spicy sauce, and the pulled pork. They were both tasty. However, the brisket was tender but without much flavor. And fourthly, I was unhappy that you cannot order the fried pickles as a side dish. I understand the helping would be smaller, or cause an upcharge, but instead in order to have them I had to order a whole appetizer. We had no complaints with the servers though. They were friendly...

My wife and I were visiting Smithville for family reasons. Tonight, we decided to go out for dinner. There was just the two of us. When traveling, I like to try indigenous restaurants when practicable. Sometimes we are disappointed, sometimes the place is OK, and sometimes we hit the jackpot. Using a Maps internet app, I searched Smithville for restaurants and decided to try Chops BBQ and Catering. JACKPOT! We ordered the 2 meat platter and upscaled it to Burnt Ends and Ribs. Sides were onion rings and baked beans. The Ends and Ribs were both excellent - large, meaty, and cooked just right. Onion rings were excellent; baked beans were OK. Service was most attentive in a homey atmosphere; I must say that little gal waiting on us did hustle all evening. Being Friday night, the place was crowded but we got our food in a timely manner. Parking on the street was good - walked about 1/2 a block on a pleasant evening. A most enjoyable experience with plenty of food for the two of us for...

We came down from Janesville, Minnesota for a Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. My ol lady and I got this absolutely phenomenal air bnb just outside of Smithsville, Mo. We decided to head out and see what town had to offer for the day, we stumbled onto a smoking competition! Upon further inspection the local smoke house was still open to the public. I didn’t even spend a total of $50 and both the ol lady and I walked out with a doggy bag. We had the 3 meat platter, brisket was spot on perfection, the smoked sausage was legit melt in your mouth divine, the ribs were the best I’ve ever had in my life, the cheesy bacon potatoes I legit would swim in that stuff!!! The ol lady and I don’t do much sauce but we tried it all, the bold was my favorite, she really liked the sweet one, she even said she regrets not carrying a purse, “that one woulda came home with us” she snickers as we walk out stuffed!!!!

Service was 5 star quality!

We’ll be...

Chops BBQ in Smithville is a charming spot with great food and a lot of personality. We started with the onion rings, which were perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious. For the main courses, my wife had the pit ham platter with cheesy potatoes and fried okra—both sides were flavorful and complemented the tender ham well. I had the brisket wrap with fries, and it was a satisfying, hearty choice. The unique decor adds a lot to the experience. The walls are covered in paper tablecloths colored by diners, with hundreds of creative designs adding a fun, personal touch. The restaurant's front is proudly lined with BBQ competition trophies, showcasing its award-winning pedigree. Chops BBQ offers a great meal in a quirky, inviting atmosphere—definitely worth a visit!

A bit of a barebones establishment (which is fine for a BBQ place) that maybe could have used some music or something to give it some more atmosphere. But hey, you're here for the meats, not the music. I had the burnt ends (good but could have been a bit hotter) along with a sausage (also could have been warmed up some more) both of which were quite tasty. The real star of my meal might have the pork rinds though, which were absolutely delicious. Portions were maybe a bit on the small side for the prices, but not outrageously so. Staff was super nice. Could have maybe used a bit more variety in the BBQ sauce selection, there was sweet, hot and bold but there wasn't much difference between them. I'd go back for the pork rinds any time though!

Ordered the Haagenslaw, absolutely over the top!!! Will not be disappointed, came with a couple pickled onions that were spectacular! Fried Okra was fantastic, please don’t ruin them with ranch (why would you do that ewww, not my cup of tea. Speaking of tea, I like mine sweet and theirs is just right with full tea taste and a lil sweet. For the coleslaw connoisseur theirs is phenomenal, fresh and with a little special house seasoning added. Don’t pass them up. The service is 5 star, Delaney was my server and embraces hospitality and customer service.
