Westlake Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Smithville

I ordered some delivery from this restaurant for a birthday dinner last night, and the food was literally inedible. This has never happened to me with Chinese food before. China King, the other Chinese restaurant in Smithville, is pretty bad, but still it's edible when you have the craving for it. The beauty of Chinese food is that even when it's bad it's good, at least usually. But this food was actually all bad. The sesame chicken tasted nothing like sesame chicken. It tasted extremely sugary, kind of like sweet-and-sour chicken, and had sesame seeds sprinkled over the top. All the meats in the dishes had obviously been cooked long before they were delivered and were tough and dry. The rice was dry. It was extremely disappointing for everyone. After a few bites of all the dishes we stopped eating and just ate the birthday cake. We ended up dumping all the food in the trash. Worst of all, the small amount of food I ate actually made me sick afterwards....

My husband and I wanted to try a new place today. We wasn't starving however we wanted to sample.

We tried a bite of everything that was available. Some of the food had been there a while, some trays were empty. The nice lady let us know when the trays were refilled.

The top 3 items of mine were: stuffed mushrooms (heavy with cream cheese), the fresh beef and broccoli, and spicy string beans. The battered coconut shrimp was dry but I still enjoyed it. The orange chicken was fresh and I liked the sauce. They had 2 soup options, the classic egg drop and hot and sour.

The price was really good and surprised us for a Sunday buffet. We paid less...

We went there about 30 minutes prior to closing, and we were not going to eat because the hotline was stale and had little food. They could tell we were not pleased and offered to make any of the dishes we would like more of. We were very impressed with this. It took them no time to make the food we requested and it was very good. We have had bad experiences at chinese buffets near closing time, and didn't expect them to make fresh food. The service at this restaurant is like none we had ever experienced at this price point!! Its a must go to in Smithville! Especially after shredding the trails...
