We've heard a lot about Comfort Cafe, but never seen to find the time. I can tell you now that we have really been missing out on this one of a kind Cafe.
Bring cash or a checkbook, because no cards are accepted.
When you walk in, you'll walk to the back and order from the counter. The menu is posted on a chalk board next to the counter. But don't look for prices, there aren't any. Comfort Cafe is donation based, and proceeds go to support their recovery program. When ordering they write each person's name next to their order, because they are making food for YOU and not just another ticket, and they pray over your food AS they are making it. And speaking of the food......... gourmet and made with love are the first two things that come to mind. You find all of the regular things on the menu, omelets, bacon and eggs, pancakes and french toast. But that is where the ordinary ends.
Churro stuffed or Lemon glaze french toast! A Pancake Flight Triple Berry Waffles The Drunk Monkey Or the Lone Star (which is entirely to big for one person), are just a few of the absolutely wonderful things on the menu. I could spend the next three paragraphs in a feeble attempt to describe how great the food is, but it would only illustrate my foolish verbosity. If Churro stuffed French toast doesn't get you through the door, nothing will.
The staff is super friendly with constant smiles. They are very attentive and are genuinely happy to...

The service could be a little faster, but hey, they are usually pretty slammed, so it's understandable. The service couldn't, however, be friendlier. These are really nice folks, always smiling, and you genuinely feel that they are happy you're there. That attitude lends itself well to the terrific atmosphere, so just plan to sit and enjoy the company of your companions while you take in the cool art and Austin-light type funk.
When your food does arrive, there is no room for disappointment, as it is all amazing. Whether it's a stack of fluffy lemon ricotta pancakes covered in blueberry compote, an enormous breakfast parfait served in a martini glass the size of your head, or a creative Benny, Comfort Cafe breakfast is sure to awe you.
They do lunch too! I haven't had any of it (I can't resist those pancakes), but I'll just bet it's amazing too!
You thought that was the best part, but it gets better...
There is no "bill" at the end. They don't put a price tag on any of this. Instead, they ask you for a donation. Yep, you pay what you think the meal was worth, and the proceeds benefit folks in recovery.
So, if you find yourself in the area, go take in the fun surroundings (be sure to check out the mirror mural outside), make your mouth happy with delicious food, and help your fellow man while...
Read moreThis diamond in the rough is unlike any restaurant you would experience in central Texas. By concept, we go to restaurants to eat and to nurture our hunger pangs and even perhaps our cravings for that day. This soul-soothing establishment does not just indulge in this concept, but the actual environment provides a sense of peace and belonging into this God giving universe.
The food is great and indeed comforting as portrayed by the name. The staff is hospitable and shows effort in your appreciation for visiting the restaurant whether they wait your table or not- random employees continued to thank us for dinning throughout our visit.
This is a kid friendly-family restaurant and I highly recommend this place, I would even come here on a field trip with my students if we were not suffering through this pandemic. For extra safety due to COVID-19 , eat outside on their patio; It is clean and bug free. With that being said, whether you decide to eat inside or out, the restaurant staff is very conscious about their customers’ safety as much as their own so all staff wear protective gear throughout your dinning...
